Eastern State Hospital (ESH) is excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for two (2) Health Records Technician 1 (HRT1) positions in the Health Information Management (HIM) department. These positions ensure the security and confidentiality of protected health information and require knowledge of general health information management. We are looking for detail-oriented individuals to join our highly motivated team. The work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

ESH is a state psychiatric hospital with an operating capacity of 368 beds located on a beautiful, wooded campus in Medical Lake, Washington.

Some of what you'll do:

  • Complete records production for discovery, public and health records requests. Perform redaction as required.
  • Prepare for and become a subject matter expert on the electronic health record system at implementation and provide technical guidance and training to hospital staff.
  • Use digital and physical data systems to track movement of patients and documents.
  • Assemble and audit patient records for completeness, accuracy, timeliness, and authentication, working in partnership with professional staff to resolve documentation deficiencies and facilitate improvement.
  • Prepare, analyze, and maintain paper and electronic health records.
  • Coordinate record retention, archiving and transmittal of paper records.
  • Create and maintain electronic databases.
  • Review, organize and process court documents received throughout the patient's admission.
  • Maintain and monitor established record keeping, filing and database systems.
  • Develop and/or revise hospital forms and distribute to patient care areas and hospital staff.
  • Work in partnership with other HIM team members to provide excellent service to the departments various customers.
Who should apply?
Associate degree and at least two years of experience in HIM or in a healthcare privacy and/or compliance office or related area.
Or
Combined experience in the above areas may be substituted year for year for experience desired.

Positions generally require current and ongoing accreditation through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
