Job Purpose:

Work with Systems Engineering to develop an electrical system design, generate a machine schematic, and create all details needed to manufacture electrical harnesses for new and existing machines. The position will own the electrical harness design, assist in routing, prototype fabrication and machine trouble shooting. Position will include giving work direction to electrical technicians, associate designers, and drafters.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Develops the electrical system / schematic for new improved electrical systems, ensures the harness system will comply to applicable standards and meet durability, manufacturing and performance requirements.

  • Responsible for basic design calculations relating to current, voltage, power, temperature, heat buildup, bend radius and mounting locations.
  • Owns the harness schedule and is responsible for communicating to project leaders schedule and design progress.
  • Secure assistance of consultants or internal specialists, i.e. Electrical, Mechanical and/or Manufacturing engineers and vendor experts.
  • Support team design reviews, safety reviews and cost and manufacturing reviews.
  • Maintain accurate lists of parts created. Coordinate or help to coordinate the release of parts for production whether for prototypes or final production. Components may include solid state devices, switches, sensors, solenoids, actuators and other special assemblies.
  • Support functional evaluation of prototypes. Work with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, test engineers and others to determine changes which are needed to meet customer requirements. Solve harness routing and electrical design problems. Evaluate field failures to determine root cause. Gather pertinent data on the electrical performance of products, prototypes under laboratory and field conditions. Coordinate the required documentation to assure that the changes are implemented on a timely basis.

Job Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited technical school for design and drafting (two-year course) or B.S. degree in an engineering related technology (Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive, Manufacturing, or Design)
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of related experience in electrical harness / schematic design using design software (Arcadia, Creo Schematics or similar).
  • Skills/Competencies:

    • Reading schematic Diagrams
    • Test Execution
    • Technical Specification Design
  • Has a proven record of accomplishments as and Electrical Designer. Recognized as subject matter expert (SME) of technology. Has acted as a technical lead, influencing direction on a major project.
  • Able to interpret corporate business strategies, technical roadmaps, and external market conditions to originate action.

  • Travel to test sites, vendors, manufacturing facilities, customers and others, as required.
  • May give work direction to electrical technicians, associate designers, and drafters.
