Electrical Test Engineer -- 1st Shift Job at Westinghouse Power and Electric

This role is 40 hours/week with core hours from 9 am to 3 pm on-site. 9/80 and 4/10 schedules are also available subject to the manager's approval.

Primary Role

Provide electrical engineering assistance at a zirconium manufacturing operation for equipment, systems, and procedures for the nuclear power industry. The plant contains a variety of tools and apparatus used in chemical and metals manufacturing industries, such as chemical processing systems (separators, fluidized bed reactors, distillation furnaces), vacuum arc furnaces, electron beam furnaces and welders, lathes, annealing furnaces, pre-heat furnaces, forges, extrusion presses, pilgers, cranes and lifting fixtures, boilers, cooling towers, planers and mills. Much of the plant equipment is equipped with control systems such as Modicon, Rockwell, Siemens, Honeywell and Emerson Delta-V. The plant electrical distribution system is fed from an on-site substation which circulates power throughout the plant and is augmented with an emergency generator, providing emergency power to selected systems in the event of a main power failure.

Responsibilities

  • Supply direct, daily technical engineering assistance and leadership for electrical systems, instrumentation, and controls for plant processing equipment, plant operations, and maintenance.

  • Take the lead technical responsibility for the design and implementation of new or modified systems. This involves the development of electrical drawings such as 1-line, layout, schematics drawings, specification of new equipment, electrical distribution systems, instrumentation, and control systems. Responsibilities include design development, leading design teams, overseeing and coordinating installation, fabrication, testing, and qualification of new equipment or systems.

  • Head projects as a project manager and lead electrical engineer utilizing common project management tools like scope development, schedule development in Microsoft Project, developing and managing a Work Breakdown Structure, risk management, and Utilizing Earned Value Management for managing and reporting project status.

  • Develop and execute test plans to make sure proper operation of systems and validation of system designs.

  • Set up maintenance requirements for new equipment by following manufacturer’s recommendations and instructions and/or performing engineering analyses to justify changes.

  • Ensure compliance to safety and regulatory requirements for plant and equipment electrical and control systems.

  • Conduct failure analyses and problem solving to determine causes of failures in systems and recommend resolutions.

  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to help plant activities and new projects.

  • Analyze and suggest adoption of technological innovations in industrial and process controls for mechanical equipment and chemical processes to solve complex manufacturing issues.

  • Analyze and make proposals for new business opportunities and implement strategic plans.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Test Engineer - 1st Shifting from accredited institution, courses in power system distribution are preferred.

  • At least 2 years of electrical engineering experience in a manufacturing or chemical plant or consulting firm specialized in heavy industry design/construction.

  • Strong project management skills utilizing Microsoft Project.

  • Strong teamwork skills working across all levels of an organization.

  • Working knowledge of ISA, IEEE, NEC, NEMA and NFPA electrical codes and standards.

  • Adequate oral and written communication skills.

  • Presentation skills critical to influence derived outcome.

  • AutoCAD skill is preferred.
