Qualifications:

  • · Hold valid New York State certification in Special Education
  • · Qualified to be employed as a Special Education Teacher per NYS Education Department guidelines

Responsibilities Shall include but are not limited to the following:

  • · Attend meetings as needed
  • · Follow directives (written, oral, electronic)
  • · Regular use of school email
  • · General Special Education Teacher Assignments
  • · Utilize a functional life skills curriculum (Unique Curriculum) focusing on adapted living skills, money management, transition and post-secondary plans that are individualized for each student with a developmental disability
  • · Maintain a thorough understanding and knowledge of individual student needs and abilities to assist in the development of appropriate teaching plans
  • · Ongoing lesson adaptations to meet individual student needs of this population.
  • · Specialized instruction will be delivered as a whole group, small group or one to one depending on student needs.
  • · Develop and implement Individual Education Programs (IEP) for each student delineating goals and objectives to be worked on throughout the school year in collaboration with related service providers, colleagues, administrators and parents.
  • · Plan, organize and assign individualized activities to address transition and post-secondary plans.
  • · Participate in mandated trainings for NYS Alternate Assessments.
  • · Coordinate individual student completion of alternate assessments as required by NYSED.
  • · Supervise and mentor teacher aides to ensure a thorough understanding of each students’ developmental disability, how the disability impacts learning and a clear understanding of roles/expectations in supporting the student throughout the school day.
  • · Ongoing collaboration with parents in the development of an appropriate transition/post-secondary plan through the high school years which is reviewed and revised on a regular basis to address individual needs.
  • · Accessing professional development opportunities on a routine basis that are specifically designed to address the needs of developmentally disabled students.
  • · This assignment differs from other special education assignments as these developmentally disabled students participate in NYS Alternate Assessments and are working toward a Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential.
  • · Other special education assignments focus on the achievement of a Regents Diploma and/or a Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) Commencement Credential.
  • · Attends training as deemed appropriate by the administration
  • · Able to interact in a professional manner with staff, students, and visitors
  • · Maintain Data Security as applicable.
  • · Maintain confidentiality with staff, student and family information
  • · Operate in a respectful, responsible manner

Reports to: Principal and Director of Special Education

Salary: As per the contract between Victor Central Schools and the Victor Teachers’ Association contract

Terms of Employment:

  • The position of Special Education Teacher is a ten-month position. The terms established in accordance with the contract between the Superintendent of Schools and the Victor Teachers’ Association.

Evaluation:

  • Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by district administration.

Job Type: Full-time
