2023 Coach Job Description

Silicon Valley Education Foundation has been partnering with school districts since 2008 to
offer Elevate [Math], a yearly summer intervention program to prepare students to
successfully complete their next level Common Core math course. Elevate [Math]’s goal is
to support “nearly meeting standard” students in their college and career pathway

1. Coach Planning
Coach Workshop TBD

2. Assist with Teacher PL
Attendance is required at all PL sessions

Session 1: in person or virtual
  • April 19th and 20th, 4:00-6:00 pm virtual
OR April 22nd, 8:30am-12:30pm in person

Professional Sessions 2 - 4: virtual
Learning April 29th, 8:30am-12:30pm

  • May 6th, 8:30am-12:30pm
  • May 20th, 8:30am-12:30pm

3. Lead Professional Learning Communities

Host three online PLC sessions with your teacher team: one before classes begin
and two during the summer class dates

4. Program Debrief (TBD)

The 19-day (middle school) and 24-day (high school) programs will run approximately
mid-June through mid- August.

Coaches will be responsible for 8-10 teachers.
Program

Commitment 1. Class Observations: Coaches will be trained on an Observation Protocol and must
observe/debrief each teacher’s class at least 2 times during the program.

2. Program Meetings: Coaches must attend all meetings, including an end of
program feedback session

Location Each class is held at a specific site determined by each district in-person learning.

$6750 stipend (payroll taxes apply)

Compensation Referral Bonus: Receive a $100 bonus if a referred teacher completes the summer
program.

  • Attendance at coach training
  • Participation in Professional Learning Sessions
Non-Negotiable Lead 3 PLCs
  • Observe each teacher's class at least 2 times during the program
  • Attend all meetings, including end-of-program debrief

Responsibilities | Duties

  • Coordinate, observe, and follow-up on observations (2 per teacher) of
classroom instruction and student engagement (non-evaluative).
  • Actively participate in Elevate teacher professional learning sessions and
PLCs (3).
  • Support/attend end-of-program celebrations for assigned teachers.
  • Ensure teachers administer pre/post assessments and surveys.
  • Facilitate data collection for each class (attendance, student information, etc)
and support teachers to ensure data accuracy.
  • Serve as liaison for teachers, ensuring teacher requests are addressed.
  • Provide general program support.
  • Serve as mentor and coach to teachers.

Qualifications | Background

  • California Teaching Credential
  • 5-10 years experience as a math teacher, math lead or coach.
  • Experience in supervision and/or coaching
  • Able to communicate clearly & effectively with all constituents (email &
texting)
  • Ability to use technology tools including but not limited to Google
Classroom, Zoom, Nearpod
  • Provide own transportation between sites (mileage will be reimbursed

between sites only)

Elevate [Math] is proud to continue evolving its program through summer
results, teacher, college mentor, and student surveys, and other feedback.

We are excited to offer our programs for grades 3-10 for Summer 2023.

Grades Rising 3rd-10th graders

Length -3rd-8th: 19 days, approx. 3.5-4 hrs/ day
  • 9th-10th: 19-24 days, approx. 3.5-5.5 hrs/ day
Curriculum -Elevate [Math] common core aligned curriculum
  • Blended math and literacy (in 3rd-5th)

Professional -PL, PLC, and Coach Support (30 Hours)
Learning

Classroom Support -College Mentor (1 CM : 3 Classes)
  • Coach (1 coach : 10 Teachers)
College Awareness -UC Berkeley College Curriculum
  • College Exploration Session (High School only)
