Position: Engineering Technician

Location: DeBary, FL

This position will be responsible for the following duties:

• Propose and process facility extensions and relocation requests using optimum methods and effective routings. This includes establishing optimum running lines, location and verification of underground utilities, and other topography such as buildings, drainage structures, etc.
• Capable of working in CHPK-FPU GIS system and AutoCAD to provide drawings and updating of maps.
• Interact with Gas Operational employees, design consultants, and contractors on project designs and edits.
• Prepare and/or review main and service cards, project construction work order packages and maintain status logs.
• Prepare construction and permit application packages which contain essential information and effectively illustrate the proposed work. Research, prepare and submit easements, permits.
• Prepare and interpret accurate cost estimates, material lists, and construction layout and improvement requisition packages.
• Interpret engineering drawings from design sketches to post “As-built” information and address facility inquiries and correspondence requests. Review and process easement consent and abandonment request forms.
• Mark-up new construction/highway plans to determine potential conflicts and replacement requirements.
• Capable of reviewing and selecting meter(s), regulator(s), and relief valve based on system needs, customer load demands, Company policies and code requirements.
• Research using various resources to identify supporting information (i.e. Property Ownership, Easements, Plat maps, Road and Right-of-way drawings, Service Record Cards, Plans, Plats, ESRI GIS, etc.).
• Performs all other duties as assigned by Gas Operations Manager and/ or Supervisors of Operations.

• High school diploma required. Associates Degree in Engineering or related technical major preferred.
• One to three years training and/or experience in natural and propane gas operations underground utilities, drafting, and/or surveying is also desired.
• Working knowledge and/or aptitude on natural gas distribution facilities, underground construction, and maintenance practices to employ sound engineering decisions.
• Employee must be capable of producing clear and accurate construction and permit drawings via computer operation and programs. Ability to use aided (AutoCAD), ESRI GIS, and basic manual drafting skills are desired.
• Ability to use basic surveying equipment is desired.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, field sketches, plans, maps, notes, oral instructions, calculations, etc.
• Have the aptitude to effectively utilize various PC software programs (AutoCAD, ESRI GIS, MS Office-Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Valid FL driver's license.
• Daily local travel may be required.
• Exposure to various hazardous conditions including escaping gas and heavy machinery at construction sites.
• Position requires walking long distances. Outside work required even during inclement weather.
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
