Summary
The Engineering Technician performs and leads test assignments on product and process development in support of Global Engineering and New Product Development (NPD). This individual will prepare and operate manual and semi-automated web handling/heat sealing equipment, complete experiments, collect and log data from instrumentation and observation for analysis. This position works closely with department managers, engineers and other technicians to plan, coordinate and execute assigned projects.
Responsibilities
  • Creates and tests product samples to understand manufacturing processes and variability for new product features and materials using manual or semi-automated equipment
  • Helps assess new processes and tooling for production feasibility
  • Prepares equipment and instrumentation, including digital programing (recipe creation) on equipment to run new processes
  • Performs product/ material testing – tensile, leak testing. pressure testing, etc.
  • Coordinates and completes test assignments on experimental work
  • Performs measurements of products, tooling and fixturing using precision equipment (e.g. Smartscopes, Optical Comparitor, gages, and other test and measurement equipment).
  • Collects and logs data from test setup and publishes test results
  • Responsible for maintenance and utilization of lab tools and instruments
  • Maintains safe working conditions and methods in the lab area
  • Maintains an inventory of production and experimental test material
  • Basic understanding of web handling type production equipment desired
  • Basic understanding of film/plastic heat sealing equipment operation desired
  • Performs other duties as assigned by department management

Essential Functions of the Role
  • Prolonged sitting and standing
  • Verbal communication – both speaking and listening Functional familiarity with standard PCs and MS Office Bending
  • Climbing
  • Lifting (up to 50 pounds)
  • Working hours and conditions: Monday – Friday, start time between 6-8 AM CT, 100% on-site
Work Experience Requirements
  • Number of overall years necessary: 2-5 years
  • 2 years of relevant experience desired: in a manufacturing or laboratory environment
  • Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED required
  • Desired but not required: Design of Experiments training, vocational school certificate in a technical field Journeyman machinist/tool and die maker or desire to study in near future

Specialized Skills/Technical Knowledge
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, sketches, design work with CAD desirable.
  • AutoCad/Inventor/Solidworks experience preferred
  • Experience operating production web handling and/or heat sealing equipment strongly preferred
