NOTE: Rate is $30 while teaching only and $19.50 for planning.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Interested in sharing your passion/hobby with the community? The South Sound YMCA is seeking enthusiastic Instructors who are interested in teaching After-School Enrichment Programs to local elementary students. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Examples of offerings include classes such as 3D Printing, Fine Art, and Ukulele, however we’re open to a variety of fine arts, technology, and skill-based classes. This position is highly flexible, but generally requires the person to be available 10-20 hours per week in the afternoons, to work in various Elementary School sites. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Plan and deliver an 8-week class for kids ages 6-12.

2. Maintain cooperative, supporting relationships with students and parents/guardians.

3. Collaborate with school staff including custodians, principal, and teachers.

4. Develop curriculum for new course offerings

5. Review curriculum/prepare lesson plans to provide appropriate instruction and activities for students to meet YMCA policies, goals, and objectives.

6. Maintain program operations and facility in accordance with YMCA requirements

7. Attend required and appropriate trainings and staff meetings

8. Maintain site in accordance with school district standards such as custodial duties as necessary to leave the general space, restrooms, sinks, halls, playground in clean, orderly condition.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Understanding in leading and managing groups of children in activities with patience and compassion

2. Positive, friendly, and enthusiastic attitude that enjoys working with people of all backgrounds

3. Have interest in teaching classes; experience is a plus

4. Ideal candidates have a strong knowledge in the program they wish to teach

5. Be able to work at multiple school enrichment sites

6. All background check forms and MMR record must be completed prior to the first day of working with children.


UPON HIRE:
Have the following documentation on file at YMCA Association Office within expressed time limits:

  • First Aid, CPR, HIV / AIDS completed within 30 days of hire
  • New Employee Orientation completed within 45 days of hire

  • Incumbent must be able to move freely and quickly throughout YMCA facilities; communicate effectively with people in person, on the phone and via written correspondence; and use a computer for a significant portion of the workday.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
