  • HOW IT’S DONE
    • Communicate with previous shift: discuss production status and any mechanical problems that have occurred
    • Determine which rolls will be needed, verify their availability and order them from Warehouse as needed
    • Inspect tools and equipment for wear and sharpen knives as needed.
    • Record all required info on the Rewinder Report and Forklift Inspection Report
    • Cut cores: receive cores from Warehouse. Load cores onto core cutter, set the cutter to the needed length and cut as many cores as needed.
    • Evaluate extra cores to determine if they can be reused. Take to core area or discard as needed. Dust off machines and sweep floors
    • Transport any fiberglass scrap to the scrap compactor and operate compactor as needed.
    Operate roll lift to set up bull roll and/or mandrel stand to setup mandrels. Remove all packaging, end caps, and labels to prepare roll. Place rolls on mandrel and verify all settings. Load cores as needed.
    Inspect slitter blades for wear. Use hand tools to insert new blade and reassemble as needed. Place rebuilt slitter(s) back on the slitter arbor. Place the arbor in the proper position according to product to be run. Use tools to make adjustments as needed. Use tape measure to ensure blades are within the 1/16” tolerance. Notify Machine Attendants slitters are ready and adjust throughout shift as needed.
    Remove and discard packaging, save the label to record info onto Slitter/Rewinder Report. Remove observed defects, and verify proper settings are present including mandrel setup, guide eye position, and roll positions. Use knife to create a leader piece. Physically unroll enough mat to begin lacing in the Rewinder. Pull and feed the mat under and over the proper Rewinder rolls. Process may vary by Rewinder being operated.
    Secure leader on core. Set all Rewinder controls as needed including brake and tension settings, positioning the guide eye, and setting the Rewinder speed.
    Rewinding Rolls: Verify settings, adjust/position slitters if needed, start machine, and monitor the roll feet counter to locate defect. Inspect the defect and determine the best course of action. If the roll can be used (i.e. the defect is minor), use knife to remove the damaged layers. Splice the roll and tag the seam with identifying splice markers. Measure length of scrap removed from roll and note it on the label. Discard scrap. Tape the correct label to the roll and transport the rewound roll to the rewrap table.
