has a unique opportunity to participate in a comprehensive development program designed to give an understanding of the operations and processes of our ethanol facilities. Over a 24-month timeframe, you will develop skills and knowledge of CHS’ ethanol facilities by rotating through a unique, challenging and rewarding experience at different locations within CHS. Upon successful completion of the program, the Operations Project Engineer, Development Leader will be placed in a full-time (FTE) position that complements both the needs of the company and the employee strengths.


Possible positions could include: Shift Manager, Assistant Production Manager, Assistant Maintenance Manager, Plant Engineer, Project or Process Engineer

Responsibilities


Ethanol Operations and Engineering

  • 8-month (Operations) Rotation in Rochelle, IL
  • 8-month (Engineering) Rotation in Rochelle, IL
  • 8-month (Operations) Rotation in Hallock, MN
  • Total Rotation: 24-months


Operations:
Contribute fully to the day-to-day physical operation of the CHS facility to understand fundamental operations and processes. Develop a thorough understanding of operational processes. Support the facility in prioritizing and optimizing Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). Support and guide plant management with projects, drawing reviews, equipment specifications, operational narrative preparations, and employee training. Lead continuous improvement efforts. Review of production data routinely to ensure accuracy and to analyze for continuous improvements throughout the facility.


Engineering:
Plan assigned design and/or development projects by preparing engineering documents, calculations, drawings, material lists, construction schedules and operating instructions with emphasis on achieving optimum processing efficiency, reducing energy and material costs, and adhering to safety requirements. Provide project management support and supervision to construction crews and organize each step of the construction process. Coordinate the communication involving projects with the supervisor, engineering team (Plant, Project, Process and Controls), facility department managers, and outside consulting agencies to maintain understanding of appropriate parties.


Minimum Qualifications (required)


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Agriculture, Chemical, Mechanical, Bioproducts and Biosystems, etc.); or obtaining degree sometime in 2023
  • 0-1+ years of related experience to include:
    • Good problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude
    • Ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting work priorities, ambiguity, adversity, and change
    • Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
    • Must be well organized, goal orientated, and self-directed
    • Demonstrates mechanical and analytical interest with strong problem-solving skills
    • Demonstrate and promote safety
    • Collaborative team player

Physical Requirements


  • This role will require you to be on premise for each of the rotations (please note: CHS will assist with relocation expenses)
  • The Operations Project Engineer may be asked to travel to other CHS locations for instructional purposes and continued growth and development
  • Willingness to consider relocation for future growth opportunities
