Basic Job Function:

To run all operations of the Event & Floral Design department. To coordinate, lead and manage all Designers while responsible for overall look and quality control for all weddings, corporate events, functions, in house and retail operations. Must manage overall budgets and responsible for net profit. Maximizes revenues and controls expenses through effective negotiation of services and accurate forecasting. To uphold and ensure compliance with all company and departmental policies and procedures.


Use of Company Vehicle: Designated to drive a company vehicle


Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum two (2) years management experience in a comparable field required
  • High school or equivalent education required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Must have excellent verbal, written, presentation and communication skills to effectively work with clients and management personnel
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License
  • Must have a favorable driving history
  • Company policy requires that one must be 21 years of age or older to drive a company vehicle and pass a yearly Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) review
  • Proficient in Windows XP and Microsoft Office software applications such as: Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Proficient with peripherals, copier, fax, telephone and calculator
  • Proven track record in account management and customer service skills
  • Ability to prepare an annual operating budget
  • Ability to coordinate operations/events between Event & Floral Design department, Banquets, Container Gardening and Landscape departments and staff
  • Must possess a design eye that knows color, texture, scale and proportions in design (floral design training is desired but not a requirement)

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and lead all planning visits with professional proposals and present overall vision of event including floral design, linen, specialty furniture, lighting design, etc.
  • Develop theme concept designs for functions, assisting with the set-up of all theme events, procuring necessary props, floral, entertainment, etc.
  • Maintain development and research – current trends, traditional expectations and market expectations
  • Gain larger presence in company events – groups, private clubs within company
  • Responsible for sales and marketing – initially re-branding the products and services
  • Develop and implement new ideas to increase revenue for the department
  • Produce and approve professional estimates and presentations for each event you are overseeing with the designer
  • Ensure all designs are appropriate for events (weddings and corporate) and the customer is satisfied before, during and after execution of the event
  • Must maintain that brand and expectation throughout all aspects of the job
  • Responsible for all quality control – products, arrangements at company properties, and all events where Event & Floral Design department is working
  • Ultimate vendor responsibility – negotiating, pricing, quality control. Ensure Sea Island Company gets the highest quality material at the best prices to execute each event
  • Maximizes revenues and controls expenses through effective negotiation of services and accurate forecasting
  • Maintain inventory, current costs and mark up strategy
  • Work with all teams to place orders for plants, flowers and decorations
  • Streamline organization and work flow of the Event & Floral Design Department
  • Assist in securing sub-labor for events for decorating, set up and break down (inter-departmental staff)
  • Learn the names and personally recognize our regular Guests and Members
  • Record and bill orders accurately into the register system and process payments using guest/member cards in accordance with accounting procedures
  • Uphold appropriate departmental standards of quality/timing with all requests and special projects
  • Streamline all correspondence with clients and company through estimates, emails, billing, letters, proposals and marketing
  • Prepare annual budgets. Ability to meet, if not exceed set budget requirements
  • Must have the ability to read, understand and review monthly profit and loss statements
  • Oversee the creation and proofing of contracts, time sheets, material sheets, invoices and bills before they are submitted or posted
  • Insure all company policies and procedures are adhered to by all employees, including current safety and defensive driving certifications
  • Guide, coach, counsel, develop, and inspire direct reports in a way to promote teamwork, communication and maximum productivity
  • Assists in the interviewing, training and evaluation process in accordance with company policy and procedures
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of current guest services, activities, dining options, shops, local attractions, and historical information regarding Sea Island and the surrounding area to answer any questions guests may have to the best of one’s ability
  • If applicable, complete a Guest Problem Resolutions (GPR) form on any issues (solved or unsolved issues) and follow-up on issues as needed (if computer access is not available give information to admin support)
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization in all work areas
  • Report all equipment problems and maintenance issues, known safety hazards, or unsafe practices and procedures to supervisor immediately
  • Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement
  • Willing and timely execution of other duties as delegated by leadership

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to kneel, crouch, squat, climb, stand, sit, balance, reach, bend, push, pull and walk for prolonged periods
  • If applicable, must have the ability to work for extended time periods in an outdoor environment, including sun, heat, cold, wind, rain, and higher than normal noise levels
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy
  • Ability to lift, carry, pull and push up to 50 lbs intermittently throughout a shift
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal
  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical and fume hazards
  • Maintain compliance with Company Resort Professional Image Policy
