Overview:

Responsible for performing various tasks to set up, operate, monitor machines such as drills, punch presses, saws, and sheers. Also responsbile for inspecting parts to specifications and making adjustments, or tool changes as necessary to maintain quality specifications.
Responsibilities:

First shift position, part-time position, assigned to a mentor for the extent of the program; who will train and develop the individual's skills to become proficient in the following areas:


  • Set-up and manage the manual machines to perform different jobs.
  • Starts press and observes operation to detect misalignmnet or malfunction.
  • Ensure the machine operates in accordance with the guidelines of the company.
  • Oversee the machines while they execute the tasks and make the necessary changes to produce improved results.
  • Check machinery on a daily basis to guarantee functionality.
  • Record all machine actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Ensure that results of machining process align with expectations.
  • Responsilbe for inspection of parts, SPC, TPM, teamwork, accuracy, inventory control as required, total quality, employee involvement and cost reductions.
  • Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions per supervision.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures and established practices and processes.

The term of the apprenticeship is 1 to 1 ½ years with an OJL attainment of 2,000 to 2,736 hours, supplemented by the minimum required 520 hours of related instruction.
Qualifications:
Must be a student within the Career Pathways Institute of Grand Island Public Schools within the Industrial Technology Academy.
