Peckham Inc. - Facilities Material Handler
  • Part-time: Monday - Friday 4 hours per day
  • Wage: $17.10/hour + health and welfare benefit
  • Location: Battle Creek
SUMMARY
Provides material handling services for all departments in the HDI Federal Center. This includes making deliveries, setting up rooms and building furniture. Successful candidates will have a customer service orientation with warehouse experience and/or the ability to use hand tools and follow instructions for building furniture.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Set up for meetings, conferences, approved social functions, classrooms, presentations, awards and similar ceremonies both within the Federal Center and conference centers within a 25-mile radius.
  • Load and unload materials and freight and utilize hand trucks or heavy equipment. Assemble and move furniture, general office equipment and material.
  • Pick up and store furniture and equipment that has been identified for turn-in.
  • Distribute shipments to customers as requested on work order.
  • Pick up local purchases.
  • Safeguard and secure all items received in dock area.
  • Drive excess loads to Columbus Ohio and Selfridge Detroit with straight truck.
  • Build systems furniture and do adjustments daily.
  • Provide Command driver services.
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment.
  • Assist with telephone coverage in dock area as needed.
  • Provide customer assistance upon request.
  • Accept other jobs/duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least 18 years of age
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Ability to pass a thorough background check screening (credit and criminal history) to determine fitness for a federal security clearance.
  • Proficient in the English language (written and verbal)
  • Valid Driver’s License with the ability to obtain Chauffer’s license and a medical card.
  • Demonstrated customer service and team interaction skills are required.
  • Exceptional listening skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.
  • Ability to take direction within a team setting and complete team related work promptly.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move 80-100 lbs. with regular lifting and moving of 40–50 lbs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints and/or furniture building instructions

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Individuals will be working on the dock and in the various buildings at the HDI Federal Center. Some outside work is required so individuals will be exposed to outside weather conditions. Some of the work is completed individually, and therefore are required to work well independently, however, they will also be a member of a team and therefore must be able to work in a team atmosphere. The noise level is generally moderate. The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. SECURITY
Many of the positions through the Business Services Division require a security clearance. Thus, the candidate/employee must pass and maintain appropriate security and background checks as required for each area and/or contract. The extent of the security and background check may vary by position. Employment may also be contingent upon successful security and background checks and may be run on an ad hoc basis. Required security and clearance checks will be completed at no financial cost to the candidate.
