ButterQueen Bakery is a mobile black-owned and woman-owned bakery based in Takoma Park, MD specializing in made-from-scratch southern style pound cakes and treats. We also curate gluten free and vegan options that do not hold back on taste or texture! Our grandma introduced us to the world of baking at a young age with her recipes and baking techniques. This eventually led to us baking as a fun hobby for friends, family, and small community events. Due to demand, we turned the hobby into a business.

Grandma gave us a cool nickname in the kitchen decades ago, so we thought it'd be a fitting name for the business she inspired. Her ButterQueen. Remember, if there's no butter (or vegan butter), did you really eat cake?

Our aim is to curate great tasting southern desserts, source local ingredients, and empower marginalized communities.

Since our bakery stems from southern family tradition, we place a high importance on people and how our tasty desserts make people feel. Our shared desserts bring forth good memories with great people and create space for new memories and new community. In our community, everyone is welcome. This is why we do what we do.

ABOUT YOU:

We are seeking a Full-time and Part-time staff for our Vendor Pop Ups and Farmers’ Markets in the DMV area. Please view our Events Calendar for our 2023 farmers markets and vendor pop ups. https://www.butterqueenbakery.com/events-calendar.

Those are the events you would potentially be staffed on. When not at our events, you’ll focus on marketing and branding. That’s where you come in with your marketing expertise and creativity. As we get involved with more pop ups and events, we may need kitchen surge support like mixing, baking, decorating, and packaging our goods. Don’t worry if you have no baking experience. We will teach you, just bring a willingness to learn!

You MUST be over the age of 18, have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Market Set Up: Unloads and sets up market table(s) and tent, stocks table(s) with products in a neat and visually appealing manner

Additional responsibilities may include marking prices and hanging signs, or other tasks necessary to prepare for the opening of the market

Market Operation: Provides sales and service to all customers to support market operations, ensuring that a high-quality market stand is always maintained

Works with customers to complete sales, restock tables, and maintain a clean, safe work area in a fast-paced environment

The shift is performed outdoors, rain or shine, and punctuality is paramount

Market Breakdown: Assists with the breakdown and packing of remaining products, empties stands, tables, and tents into the vehicle at the end of the market

Kitchen Support: Assists bakery owner with surge support in the kitchen to create tasty treats. This can be in the areas of mixing, baking, decorating, and packaging goods. Training is provided. SafeServ is a plus!

Social Media: Works with owner to capture pictures, videos & testimonials for marketing.

Suggests messages to owner for our social media accounts that tell a story about our company & products

You MUST be over the age of 18, have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
