FIELD is LifeLine-EMS's award-winning program that grants aspiring EMS leaders an opportunity for professional development and career progression.
This program is full-time with a weekly schedule including:

  • 2 EMT field operation shifts
  • 1 Specialty Shift – highlighting the Supervisor Candidate's individual knowledge, experience, and contribution to the organization.
  • 1 Shadow-in-Training shift – Offering mentorship from an organizational leader.
  • Each candidate will have a view into all aspects of the EMS business including; Field Operations, dispatch, revenue cycle management, business practices, people operations, recruitment, and training and education.

Reports To: Manager of Special Programs and Projects
Job Summary:
The Field Operations Supervisor is responsible for field operations oversight in an assigned area or areas. This role supervises and coordinates the activities of team members providing emergency medical services and other operations. The Operations Field Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Operations Manager in overseeing the assigned region to ensure: quality patient care, operational efficiency, proper staffing levels, motivation and development of employees, healthy relationships with customers and clients, and support of company goals and objectives. This position will oversee the day-to-day operation of LifeLine Ambulance Service and act as the On-Duty Supervisor. Duties will include asset management, staff credentialing, staff scheduling, upholding written policies and operating procedures, development of team member recruitment, training programs, and staff retention. The Operations Field Supervisor may assist with EMS response and direct patient care. Previous business management and staff supervision experience preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervision of EMS personnel
  • Ensures successful performance in patient care and operational excellence
  • Ensures proper vehicle readiness and utilization
  • Creates a culture of excellence
  • Executes Performance Improvement initiatives
  • Maintains administrative Compliance requirements
  • Maintain day-to-day operations of the assigned county
  • Supports the operational objectives including staffing, operational efficiency, patient care and partner service initiatives, team member engagement and staff development
  • Leads, motivates, and influences employees to maximize the teams’ efforts.
  • Regularly spends time in the field with frontline employees to foster great morale.
  • Ensures a safe and productive work environment.
  • Completes performance evaluation(s) on direct reports.
  • Collaborates with Sr Management on disciplinary/termination issues.
  • Actively represents our organization in the community (i.e., attendance at public meetings, community events, and other public relations opportunities).
  • Remains available to assist and respond to customer calls, requests, or special needs. (contingency and lift assist help)
  • Work with Operations Manager to investigate, document, and follow-up on customer concerns, requests, or complaints
  • Ensure that field personnel adequately complete field care report patient billing/trip ticket and daily driver's unit checkout form
  • Crew contacts each day at outlying locations, stations, or while picking up patients to monitor performance and quality of care provided
  • Participates in continuing education activities as a student, instructor, and proctor.
  • Functions as the on-duty supervisor addressing daily schedule concerns, responding to employee questions, and field emergencies.
  • Issuance of corrective action notices and assists HR with obtaining field employee certifications.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 6 months of related or similar experience and/or training; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requirements/ Certifications

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Current CA EMT or Paramedic Certification
  • Valid CA driver’s license
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR Certification (AHA)

Essential Requirements and Credentials

  • Ability to obtain a City of Los Angeles DOT Ambulance Driver/Attendant License
  • DMV Medical Examination Certificate
  • Ambulance Drivers’ Endorsement Certificate
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Memory (Long & Short Term)
  • Ability to work with others
  • Ability to handle stress
  • Ability to problem-solve.

Cognitive/Psychosocial/Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to accurately complete forms and write concise and accurate reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information to co-workers, subordinates, licensed healthcare professionals, communications center personnel, managers and administrators.
  • Ability to listen actively and comprehend the meaning of communications with co-workers, subordinates, licensed healthcare professionals, communications center personnel, managers and administrators.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to read and interpret routine performance data and bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding in order to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to define problems, establish facts based on both objective and subjective data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret basic physiological and psychological signs and symptoms and identify those that are not normal.
  • Strong understanding of operational knowledge, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to build consensus and relationships among managers, partners, and employees.
