CLASSIFICATION: 1 (FTE), NON-EXEMPT, FULL-TIME, 40 HOURS PER WEEK, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, With some Evenings and weekends. Local Travel Required

SALARY: $26.50 PER HOUR (COMMENSURATE WITH EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE)

The Financial Empowerment Specialist is responsible to help empower and engage individuals and families to improve Financial Wellness through information and education, training, coaching and by providing intensive financial case management and administrative support.?The Financial Empowerment Specialist has a responsibility to evaluate the progress of participants and track the outcomes of program progress. Financial Empowerment Specialist will offer a wide variety of resource navigation, stability services and advocacy for African American/ Black community members in need of financial education. This position will work with program participants to help them access necessary financial coaching, and act as an administrative advocate for participants obtaining financial stability. The Financial Empowerment Specialist will provide individualized support throughout the entire journey by helping each community member overcome any barriers, assess their support, and set achievable long and short-term goals for a holistic experience. The position develops and maintains working relationships with Credit Unions and community partners to promote and support the Financial Empowerment Program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Outreach/Communication:

  • Conducts outreach, recruitment, information and intake to potential participants and community members year-round.
  • Represents Urban League and the Credit Union Collaborative at meetings as needed.

General Duties

  • Provide supportive services in a culturally responsive, non-judgmental manner using a strengths-based framework of assertive engagement.
  • Coordinate intake and individualized needs assessment for community members. Work with participants to develop short- and long-term goals that address barriers to obtaining financial stability. Some participants will require permanent support in retaining and maintaining financial support, and some will need very short-term financial assistance. The Financial Empowerment Specialist will assess these needs and make decisions on the length and depth of services.
  • Monitor and evaluate each participant’s progression towards their goals and develop modifications to the plan, as necessary.
  • Provide information, “hands-on” referrals, linkages, and personal advocacy to assist participants in accessing services and resources. Directly assist participants with obtaining necessary documents and services such as credit scores.
  • Assist participants with banking applications, completing supportive paperwork, connecting with credit union partners to assist participants with their financial goals.
  • Promote culturally responsive mediation between participants and credit unions.
  • Provide holistic, culturally appropriate, and accessible life skills, education, information and responsive crisis intervention and prevention for participants.
  • Work in partnership with Urban League Community Health workers, Employment Specialists, and Community Health navigators, including reporting and intake documentation to complete follow-up and retention services.
  • Keep immediate supervisor well informed of activities, results of efforts and problems identified/ potential problems; recommends corrective action plan.
  • Staff challenging cases with individual case managers and provide coaching on techniques and approaches to providing client services
  • Present monthly at team meetings and attend housing related collaborative meetings in community and report back to Housing Programs Manager.
  • Conducts semi-annual home visits with individual housing specialists and specialists to develop unique financial empowerment plans.
  • Maintain all related data tracking systems.
  • Prepare related reports including outcomes, successes, and challenges, including generating data for monthly reports.
  • Contribute to the overall agency efforts by completing other duties as assigned.
