The Firewatch Coordinator assists in coordination and monitoring of firewatch personnel on board the ship.
POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Training)

Typically has a High School Diploma and at least one year (1) of equivalent experience. Must have knowledge of Fire Watch duties and responsibilities. Basic knowledge of math and Microsoft Excel and Word.
POSITION DEMANDS (Required Experience)
Successfully demonstrated knowledge of NASSCO’s policies and procedures Must be physically able to commute to various areas of shipyard. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke. The noise level is usually moderate to extremely noisy, which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering. Must have the ability to work at heights and in confined spaces Must comprehend written and verbal instruction, hear warning signs and read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings. Must be able to read and write effectively Must be able to work well with others Must be able to perform job safely Must know what PPE to use and when Must be able to navigate ship and understand compartment designation Must be available to work any shift. Other responsibilities and duties assigned Regular on-site attendance is required

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the FireWatch Supervisor

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in coordination and monitoring of firewatch personnel on board the ship.
Ensure reporting firewatchers have proper certifications and training, for example, firewatch/respirator/OSHA 10 cards and applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Ensure firewatch understand their duties and responsibilities
Assist in conducting shipboard project orientation of newly reporting personnel before assignment, to include but not limited to, radiation control, risk mitigation, work integration, safety, security and parking control.
Conduct daily environmental, health and safety training for all assigned firewatchers in accordance with monthly schedule.
Assists in coordinating daily production efforts with trade mechanics and safety personnel.
Maintain surveillance of firewatch personnel throughout the work day to ensure they are in their assigned work location and are mentally and physically capable of performing their duties in order to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
Attend safety and fire prevention daily and periodic walkthroughs, as required.
Ensure firewatchers are fully aware of emergency and shipboard emergency evacuation procedures, to include muster locations and accountability of personnel.
Ensure that any fire incidents or accidents occurring during the shift are reported immediately to the supervisor and safety department representative.

UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Regular reliable onsite attendance is an essential function of this job. Must be able to access all Navy installations and other shipyards. Must have reliable transportation. Must be able to work aboard vessels and work at heights up to 120’ on piers or barges. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment. Must be able to work evening and weekend hours. Must be able to lift over 50 pounds of weight. May include travel. Exposure to wind, rain, ambient temperatures such as extreme cold, wet and humid conditions, odors, dust and toxic/caustic chemicals, vibrations from ship and hand tool, and constant moving machinery.

Pay Range: $19.70 - $25.49 Per Hour

The pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity.
