FOOD AND DRINK REPORTER (Everett, WA) Job at Sound Publishing, Inc.

Sound Publishing, Inc. Everett, WA

The Daily Herald in Everett, Washington is seeking a reporter to continue growing our recently redesigned Food & Drink coverage. We're looking for someone who can provide insight, context and analysis of the Snohomish County food scene. We want someone who can run with the brand we created but also make it their own and grow it even more.

This is a high-output job. The preferred applicant should be fast,
accurate, ambitious, collaborative, self-sufficient and
detail-oriented, eager to take on assignments, and a clean and
polished writer. They should approach each assignment with a
digital-first mindset.
This is not just writing restaurant reviews, though that is part of
the job. We are looking for a reporter willing to immerse themselves
in the local food and restaurant culture.

We have a super diverse restaurant scene here, from Korean hand-breaded chicken shops to Kurdish bakeries, so this reporter should be hungry to explore it all.

We want someone who can speak authoritatively about foods and profile interesting people. They should be as comfortable seeking public records as eating a bowl of
bibimbap.
This person is responsible for a weekly food and drink section that
appears in the newspaper, providing digital content for our
SnohomDish Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages and helping author
our weekly Food and Drink newsletter.
The reporter will maintain an active presence in the community and
promote the stories they write and The Daily Herald brand. They also
may host promotional events such as personal appearances, tastings,
guest chef appearances and cooking demonstrations.

The ideal candidate should have at least two years’ experience writing
for a daily newspaper or online publication and a track record of
producing stories on a tight deadline. A background in food writing
and/or a self-described "foodie" is preferred. More than anything else, we want someone excited about all things food and drink (trying, learning, cooking, etc.).

The Daily Herald with its website, HeraldNet.com, has been the leading
news and information source in Snohomish County, Washington, for more
than a century.

We are in Everett, a vibrant and growing community 30 miles north of
Seattle, framed by Puget Sound to the west and the Cascade Mountains
to the east.
