COMMENTS: The Food Safety Supervisor will work for Mizkan America, Inc. at the Owensboro, Kentucky (Ragu) sauce plant. The plant is a high speed processing and packaging facility which produces sauces for both the Ragú and Bertolli pasta sauce brands. This position will report to the Quality Manager and is responsible for the food safety programs at the plant. This job description reflects assignment of essential functions. It does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

SUMMARY: Responsible for the development and implementation of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Program (HACCP) in the plant; controls, plans, directs and leads the HACCP and food safety program to ensure the integrity of the processes; compliance with international, federal, state and local regulations; supports experimental and R&D objectives and assures finished product meets exact standards for consumer safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the Food Safety Team
  • Maintain/Strengthen the facility’s HACCP program
  • Develop, provide, and track HACCP and new hire Food Safety training for the facility
  • Maintain/Strengthen Food Safety Program
  • Develop and track Food Safety training for the facility
  • Develop and Document Food Safety Plan, Policies and SOPs
  • Implementation of new processing techniques/technologies
  • Maintain filings with external process authorities
  • Participate in all Internal audits
  • Participate in all External Audits (FSSC, Organic, FDA, State, and USDA if applicable)
  • Manage the thermal process deviation review with designated Process Authorities
  • Supervise activities of Finished Product Auditors
  • Conduct Heat Penetration Analysis
  • Stay up to date with all new regulatory requirements and communicate changes to the plant.
  • Understand all Quality specs, in-process checks, and finished product checks
  • Understand Statistical Process Control
  • Ability to perform Traceability and Annual Mock Recalls
  • Maintain laboratory supplies for Finished Product Auditors
  • Update Food Safety Forms/Control Charts
  • Other job duties as required
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA/BS degree in a food science or related field or five years relevant work experience is required
  • Strong Computer skills (Microsoft Suite)
  • Experience working in a high speed packaging or processing plant is preferred
  • 1-2 years Supervisory experience is preferred
  • FSPCA Course - Preventive Controls for Human Food is preferred
  • Complete all required Safety and Quality training and follow all plant policies
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong Computer Literacy skills
  • Willingness and flexibility to adapt to changing business needs and deadlines
  • Ability to exhibit a professional business-like appearance and demeanor
  • Complete Thermal Processing School upon hiring
  • Complete Lead Auditor Training upon hiring
  • Complete HACCP Training/PCQI Training upon hiring
