Duties

  • Place completed food trays on carts and transport carts to wards.
  • Convert from metric measuring units to US Measuring units when required.
  • Label and deliver nourishment and early or late meals to the nursing station.
  • Clean and sanitize carts, tables, conveyors, refrigerators, floors, and entire work area.
  • Complete cycle of centralized patient tray service functions on a shift and rotation basis.
  • Use scales and other measuring devices to assemble, measure, weigh, and mix ingredients for special feedings, and nourishment.
  • Prepare individual and bulk nourishment, special feedings, toast, coffee, etc. for patients.
  • Wrap and assemble individual servings of food items from patient trays which include bread, desserts, silverware, salads etc.
  • Arrange regular and modified food items, serving utensils and condiments on the patient tray in accordance with individually written menus for regular or modified diets.
  • Provide patients with basic dietary information.
  • Follow safety procedures, such as proper lifting procedures to avoid personal injury.
  • Interpret diet orders and verifies patients' diet order.

  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekend, holiday, or special situations. Employees shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Food Service Worker~ without more than normal supervision. I can assemble trays, transport food, equipment and supplies by manual or motorized cart, clean utensils and equipment to loading areas, collects carts with trays after each meal and return to dishwashing area, and prepare food. Clean carts, tables, conveyors, refrigerators, floor work area. I work under normal supervision of a worker leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion of make sure they are properly performed.

  • Working Conditions: Work in a kitchen environment with constant exposure to steam and heat from cooking and the dishwasher. Environment often uncomfortably hot, noisy and humid. Danger of slipping on freshly mopped floors or on floors where food has been spilled. Danger of cuts or serious burns due to exposure to hot liquids, sharp blades, and hot surfaces. Exposed to constant temperature changes when going from kitchen to refrigerators and freezers. Work area has adequate lighting.
