Physical Plant Services supports the educational and public service programs of Fort Lewis College through the delivery of effective operational support, maintenance services and the management of the College’s facilities. The services are coordinated through the Service Center and are accomplished by Custodial Services, Electrical and Electronic Systems Maintenance, Grounds and Equipment Maintenance, Mechanical Systems Maintenance, and Structural Maintenance. The Project Management work unit plans projects and provides design and construction management services to support the facilities improvement and construction program.

Job Duties:
This position works on the night custodial crew as a custodial trainee from 3:00 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. Position will also occasionally work athletic events which requires weekend availability. Once the incumbent completes six months of satisfactory performance, the position will be reallocated to a Custodian I position. When working the evening and weekend shifts, position may be entitled to a shift differential.
The duties for this position include but are not limited to:


  • Washing windows and chalkboards
  • Cleaning and disinfecting water fountains, lab sinks and doors
  • Making sure classrooms, labs, and offices are secure when appropriate
  • Reporting signs of bug, insect and rodent infestation
  • Spot-cleaning walls, partitions, vending machines and doors
  • Sweeping outside entryways
  • Cleaning telephones. dusting furniture, flat surfaces, blinds and vents
  • Emptying and cleaning waste containers
  • Dusting, damp mopping, vacuuming and burnishing floors
  • Stripping and waxing floors
  • Straightening desks and furniture when appropriate
  • Shoveling snow from entryways
  • Cleaning restrooms in athletic facilities
  • Delivering chairs, tables and other equipment for special events on campus
  • Setting up and breaking down the required equipment for events
  • Inspecting and keeping all assigned areas clean healthy and safe
  • Determining the nature of and need for repair when appropriate or arranging for estimates of repairs
  • Participates in required safety trainings which include but are not limited to: first aid/CPR, fire extinguisher training, blood borne pathogens, PPE, slips, trips, and falls, etc.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • A final job offer is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a criminal background check as a condition of employment. All background checks will be conducted in accordance with Fort Lewis College policy.

  • This is an essential services position and must be able to work during inclement weather, special events, and emergencies. If the campus is closed due to inclement weather, this position must be able to get to work on time to assist with weather emergencies.
