Freelance AWS UX/UI Consultant Job at The Motley Fool

The Motley Fool Remote

The Motley Fool is looking for a highly skilled, senior level UX/UI consultant with AWS experience to consult with our team on an independent contract basis, 20-40 hours per week for approximately 6 months. This is a senior-level, consulting position that is very flexible and 100% remote. However, candidates must be located in the United States for consideration.

Who are we?

We are The Motley Fool, a purpose-driven financial information and services firm with nearly 30 years of experience focused on making the world smarter, happier, and richer. But what does that even mean?! It means we’re helping Fools (always with a capital “F”) demystify the world of finance, beat the stock market, and achieve personal wealth and happiness through our products and services.

The Motley Fool is firmly committed to diversity, inclusion, and equity. We are a motley group of overachievers that have built a culture of trust founded on Foolishness, fun, and a commitment to making the world smarter, happier and richer. However you identify or whatever winding road has led you to us, please don't hesitate to apply if the description above leaves you thinking, "Hey! I could do that!"

What does this team do?

We are assembling a team of AWS-experienced developers, product managers, designers and more to help us migrate to a cloud-first environment. This consultant will be reporting to our product lead to help us iterate on new prototypes, but will also be working cross functionally with stakeholders across The Motley Fool on our current design systems and their migration to the cloud.

What would you do in this role?

You’ll be consulting cross-functionally across tech and design teams at The Motley Fool as we push full-steam ahead toward our migration to the cloud (and AWS specifically). You’ve preferably worked for a cloud-based company in the past and can bring your unique perspective (framed by your expert-level UX/UI chops) to the table. You’ll partner with our prototyping team and help to showcase new ways The Motley Fool can approach UX and UI design, and share feedback and potential enhancements to our current design framework.

But What Would You Actually Do in this role?

  • Partner with our prototyping team to explore and showcase UX/UI enhancements
  • Review our current designs and share feedback and potential enhancements
  • Help build live prototypes with basic code
  • Work in an agile, collaborative environment, partnering with client stakeholders, to develop and improve mission-based solutions
  • Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years experience in UX/UI Design (and the portfolio to prove it)
  • Adept with designs and tools available in AWS
  • Strong prototyping, wireframing, user flow and mockup experience
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Basic front-end coding knowledge would be an advantage
  • Ability to work independently, and deliver results and drive projects with minimal supervision
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Ability to apply critical/analytical thinking to deliver sustainable and creative solutions to complex requirements.
  • Strong ability to communicate blockers and issues to management for escalation and timely resolution
  • Strong team player, with desire to learn new skills and broaden experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A passion for investing - ideally with professional experience within finance/fintech industries

Compensation:
The budget for this role is $125-$145 per hour depending on experience.
