SUMMARY
The General Ledger Accounting Manager I is responsible for maintaining the overall health and accuracy of the general ledger, developing reports and analyzing financial information and providing ad hoc analyses. You will have tremendous exposure to all aspects of the business and accounting cycle and the opportunity to drive efficiencies and process improvements within your department:
Essential Responsibilities* & *Duties

  • Assist with insuring that proper accounting policies and principles are followed in accordance with GAAP
  • Accurately prepare and process journal entries to ensure all transactions are recorded in a timely manner for all related, assigned tasks
  • Assist with reviewing expenses at the accounting level in Microix and transfer invoices from Microix into MIP for batch review
  • Maintain Microix database to include adding and removing users at the direction of finance leadership
  • Develop and proactively administer Microix trainings for all newly hired or newly assigned staff granted accounts payable responsibilities
  • Prep year end 1099’s for review by finance leadership
  • Lead the bi-weekly payroll review process and serve as the payroll processing back up for the Payroll Manager
  • In conjunction with the Payroll Manager develop and administer new hire payroll trainings for both program and administrative staff, proactively scheduling training meetings with staff prior to their first payroll being processed
  • In conjunction with the Payroll Manager make updates to the payroll application as needed ie., updating business rules for GL export, updating project codes, fundings sources, etc
  • Ensure that all payroll related journal entries are accurately prepared and entered into MIP in a timely manner
  • Research and resolve discrepancies, maintain accounting records, and assist with various projects as they occur
  • Create, set up and maintain the vendor database in the accounting software (MIP), this includes establishing new vendors in the system
  • Ensure that all vendors new and existing recognize and honor the Hotline’s sales tax exemption status
  • Maintain the chart of accounts by adding new account segment codes as directed by finance leadership
  • Assist with gathering documentation and support for external and internal audits
  • Support collaboration on workflow design with Finance Director on the development of processes, policies, systems, controls, and compliance around expense reporting, payroll, month end close, willingness to cross train within the department etc.
  • Prepare billing worksheets for all federal grants and invoices for various private grants
  • Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts monthly, recommending adjustments to the Finance Director where necessary
  • Prepare various journal entries and reclassifications as required
  • Assist with providing flux analysis support for month end activities which summarizes and tells the "story" of the account(s) activity
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • candidates without an accounting degree may be considered if they possess a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics or similar background with a minimum of 30 credit hours in accounting to include non-profit accounting, managerial accounting and financial accounting or an advanced degree in Business with a minimum of 30 credit hours in accounting to include non-profit accounting, managerial accounting and financial accounting
  • Two years of accounting experience
  • Must have a strong history of independently reconciling General Ledger accounts, with a clear understanding of preparing and recording journal entries to include monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expense, fixed asset depreciation, and adjusting or reclassification entries.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to independently interpret and apply accounting guidance
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and email/communications/scheduling software (Outlook).
  • Familiarity with social justice frameworks and a commitment to being anti-oppressive while leading the cultivation of a culture of belonging for all team members, particularly those historically marginalized identities including people of color, disabled, and transgender and LGBT employees.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects to ensure adherence to time-sensitive deadlines
  • Must be an independent, critical thinker who looks for solutions to complex situations
  • Requires a high level of confidentiality, an above-average level of flexibility, dependability, and sound independent judgment
  • Flexibility to work occasional nights and/or weekends as Finance, Program, or agency events necessitate

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced accounting degree
  • Data Analytics experience
  • Non-Profit accounting software experience (MIP)

  • This role is a primarily remote position based in Texas.
  • Must have a home workspace that is confidential, secure and free from distraction.
  • This position may be required to spend some time in-office.
  • Must maintain standards of confidentiality related to agency information.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing using keyboard, phone, and computer.
