The DMPK (Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics) group within the multidisciplinary Preclinical Sciences & Translational Safety (PSTS) organization at Janssen is recruiting for a Global Head Discovery DMPK . We are seeking an experienced (Senior Director level) drug discovery leader to further build and strengthen the interdependent collaboration between PSTS and the Therapeutics Discovery organization. This role can be located in multiple Janssen R&D sites in the US or Belgium.

The DMPK organization within Janssen R&D is responsible for both discovery and development and is committed to the delivery of high-quality clinical candidates and ultimately approved therapeutic solutions for all Therapeutic Areas (TAs).

As the global lead of DMPK’s responsibilities in discovery you will provide scientific and strategic DMPK guidance/direction to Janssen’s discovery efforts across our three research sites (La Jolla, Spring House (both US) and Beerse (Belgium)) and that consists of a very broad range of therapeutic modalities (a.o. small molecules, peptides, siRNA/ASO, ADCs, gene/cell therapy).

As a member of the Global DMPK Senior Leadership team, you will be expected to represent DMPK’s discovery efforts at both strategic (e.g., innovation needs, resource allocation, capital investments), as well as scientific (project review, portfolio governance meetings) discussions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead DMPK’s scientific and strategic efforts in the discovery of high-quality clinical candidates (consisting of broad range of therapeutic modalities).
• Provide leadership in building and strengthening the interdependent collaboration between Therapeutics Discovery and DMPK/PSTS and be the primary point of contact for all DMPK discovery related activities.
• Drive the introduction and use of early PK/Dose predictions, PKPD concepts and hypothesis driven research.
• Allocate and prioritize discovery resources, collaborate on scientific and business issues and evaluate and implement innovative technologies and strategies to evolve DMPK’s discovery capabilities.
• Lead (direct and/or indirect reporting line) a global team of Discovery DMPK project reps (individuals that represent the DMPK discipline on discovery teams).
• Review and approve key documents that describe the progress and quality of potential clinical candidates (e.g., DMPK sections of compound monographs, quality score cards, important stage gate presentations)
• Provide internal as well as external leadership in defining and guiding the DMPK discovery needs and opportunities for novel therapeutic modalities.
• Represent DMPK on cross functional critical initiatives

Education:

• A PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field, with 10+ years of relevant industry experience

Experience and Skills:

Required:

• DMPK discovery experience for a broad range of therapeutic modalities (a.o. small molecules, peptides, siRNA/ASO, ADC)
• A passionate drug-hunter that applies her/his expertise and knowledge to guide progress and quality of the Janssen discovery portfolio.
• Knowledge of existing and pioneering in vitro and in vivo research models and tools
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral/written communication, process management and teamwork skills
• Strong negotiation and influencing skills, ability to set priorities and adhere to project and departmental timelines

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

The anticipated base pay range for this position in the US is $182,000 to $315,100.
