JOB SUMMARY

Drives gasoline or diesel powered tractor to move materials, pull farm implements, and tow trailers to fields by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Must obey company and safety policies at all times.
• Checks tractor and equipment to ensure it is in safe working condition. Ensures proper oil, gasoline, and water levels in appropriate tanks on machinery. Must report any problems or accidents immediately to foreman on duty.
• Adjust farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, to tractors using bolts and hand tools. Operate tractors with accessories attached.
• Observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions.
• Loads and drives truck to transport farm supplies and tools such as fertilizer and pesticide chemicals, trellis poles and wires, hoes and shovels, harvested crops, and farm workers to specified locations.
• Inspects fields, observes growing plants and harvested crop and confers with District Foreman and/or Agronomist to determine duties such as cultivating, spraying, thinning, weeding, irrigating, and harvesting according to time of year and condition of soil, plants, and crops.
• Drives tractor to field and tows attached implement back and forth across field or between crop rows, manipulating levers that activate and position implement parts to till soil.
• Draining excess irrigation water which involves shoveling to help facilitate the draining of water. Makes minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery.
• Sprays fertilizer and pesticide solutions in assigned areas. Weeds, or performs other ground labor as required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, walk, squat, climb, kneel and crawl. On occasion they will also be required to bend/twist at the neck and waist, as well as repetitively use hands to perform simple and power grasping. They will also be required to occasionally push/pull with their arms and reach above/below their shoulders.
• The employee frequently is required to sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Climbs exterior ladders up to 14 feet to clean machinery.

Pay Range:

$18-20/hour
