TITLE: GROUNDS MAINTENANCE BUILDING/DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities or Designee BARGAINING UNIT: PSE

POSITION SUMMARY
Keeping the district grounds in a condition of excellence under the supervision of the Grounds Maintenance Lead.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

● Perform grounds work to maintain all district landscape areas and athletic fields; establish and maintain effective relationships with school staff, students, and other users of district facilities. Maintain grooming and attire appropriate to district standards; represent the district in a professional and business-like manner.

● Layout and maintain athletic fields, including lining and burning.
● Maintain, mow, and edge lawns and borders; operate power mowers, tractors, front loaders, and other equipment as needed.
● Plant trees, grass, and shrubs, and assist in methods of controlling plant diseases and insects.
● Keep grounds free from litter and outside garbage cans dumped regularly.
● Water lawns, trees, and shrubs; control weeds and rake leaves and lawns.
● Fertilize lawns, shrubs, and trees. Spray and prune trees and shrubs. Maintain and weed plant beds.
● Operate, repair, and maintain the sprinkler system.
● Perform minor mechanical repair work. Perform general maintenance and custodial work on a temporary or emergency basis.
● Obtain and maintain all licenses and certificates necessary to accomplish assigned duties and responsibilities.
● Comply with all safety rules and regulations of the district and regulatory agencies.
● Build concrete forms; mix, pour, and finish cement.
● Routinely Inspect playground areas to ensure safe and proper function of equipment and proper surface protection.
● Maintain job presence.
● Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or his designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). One year experience in a related field. Clear background fingerprint check. Pass post-offer employment physical.

Knowledge/Skills. Knowledge of and ability to use hand tools, small power tools, power equipment. Ability to operate light vehicles and tractors.

Language Skills. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports. Ability to clearly present instructions to student workers and co-workers.

Mathematical Skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.

Reasoning Ability. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Desired characteristics include: flexibility; confidentiality; ability to organize ideas, time and materials to accomplish goals; enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly and understand concepts being discussed; ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop favorable relationships with students; knowledge of current approaches to teaching; and willingness to model behavior deemed appropriate by the school district and community.

CLEARANCES/CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Current fingerprints on file with OSPI with results satisfactory to the district. Pass post-offer employment physical.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: Valid Washington State Driver’s License, First Aid Card, and other specialized training as required.

CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING: Must complete yearly “Safeschools” program trainings as assigned by the district.

The employee must frequently lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift, and/or move 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Employee may occasionally work in confined spaces, near moving mechanical parts, and in outside weather conditions. Employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and exposed to airborne hazards. Appropriate clothing necessary.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; at times, however, while near or using certain equipment, noise level may require hearing protection.
