DSP Job Description

Direct support professionals (DSPs) are people who work directly with Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities with the aim of assisting them to integrate with their communities and live their lives in the least restrictive environment. A DSP is a hero who empowers and supports an individual with a disability to lead a self-directed life and contribute to the community, assists with activities of daily living if needed, and encourages attitudes and behaviors that enhance community inclusion. A DSP may provide transportation and supports to a Individual at home, work, school, church, and other community places. A DSP is also an advocate, helping people in communicating needs, self-expression, and goals as well as assuring justice and equality in community life.

DSP Job Duties

• Respect individual rights and confidentiality. Be a role model, promote teamwork and help to make a positive work and living environment.
• Read, know, and implement Individual’s Service Plan, documenting as required.
• Remain alert to individuals’ behavior/physical changes and notify immediate supervisor. Report all pertinent medical information to nurses and follow nurses’ directions.
• Assist with and work to strengthen the individuals’ many daily living needs, including but not limited to: nutrition, hygiene, exercise, communication, and socialization skills
• Help individuals as needed to bathe, groom, dress, participate in family style dining and other daily living skills, always working to improve self-reliance
• Assist the individuals in maintaining a clean, neat and safe home environment.

DSP Job Requirements

High School Diploma and/or GED, 18 years of age or older, Valid Driver's License with clean driving record < 6points and Clean Background Check according to Federal, State and Local Law. Must be willing to earn Medication Administration certification to pass medications and monitor general health of Indivdiuals. We offer paid training.

Shifts need:

Mostly 2nd and 3rd shifts, 12 hour shifts also available. Every other weekend required. Need weekend only work as you go to school or work another job? We can offer that too!
