Position Summary

We are actively seeking an experienced and passionate Health Care/Benefits Advocate. The Health Care/Benefits Advocate will be a member of the Human Resources/Benefits team reporting to the Manager of Benefits. The Benefits Advocate's role is to assist, educate and support employees and their dependents to make appropriate healthcare decisions for their specific situation. The position will assist members in medical insurance, claims/billing, and administrative areas regarding their needs. The incumbent will be responsible for providing employee advocacy and being a trusted partner to help resolve issues and concerns. This includes determining coverage for medical procedures by studying provisions of the Company’s health insurance plans and advocating for employees as appropriate with the goal of being a good consumer, shopping for quality but affordable care, and obtaining billing transparency.

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining and analyzes information as required from outside sources, including claimant, physician, employer, hospital, insurance carriers and other third parties.
  • Initiating and investigating complex and/or questionable claims.
  • Ensuring accurate billing of services.
  • Reviewing the calculation of out-of-pocket costs based on benefits and challenging costs with providers as appropriate.

Requirements:

This role will be office based, not a remote position. This is a part-time position targeting 30 hours per week.
  • Professional experience with both medical benefit plan interpretation, provider billing practices and claim adjudication; ideal candidate may have large healthcare provider insurance experience or other applicable medical experience
  • Passion for problem solving and tackling issues head on. A strong passion for supporting employees to become well-informed consumers of health care; focus on concierge service and creating positive health care experience for employees. Ability to engage with all levels of the organization including Executive Management.
  • Experience in interpreting complex billing issues and validating appropriate charges; may lead appeals’ process for employees.
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and relationship building skills. Looking for somebody who is tenacious, doesn’t give up, and has a strong worth ethic.
  • Bachelor degree preferred. Minimum of 4 years of experience in the medical field, medical insurance carrier, or other HR/Benefits related area.
  • Subject to applicable laws, must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by start date under M.D.C. Holdings, Inc. vaccination mandate for all employees who will be working in the Corporate/Home Office at 4350 S. Monaco St. effective Nov. 1st, 2021.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $50,000-$60,000
  • FLSA Status: Exempt
  • Bonus Type: Year-end Discretionary
