As a Health Fitness Therapist, you will work with the Physical Therapy Department to provide prescribed programs of physical exercise and activities designed to enhance physical conditioning, decrease any deleterious physiological and psychological effects associated with prolonged inactivity, and achieve fullest mental and physical rehabilitation. Work is full time during the weekdays. Work is performed at the clinic with some work at the residential site and in the community.

Job Tasks:

  • Tests and evaluates patients for resting values, body composition, flexibility, muscle strength, muscle endurance, cardiorespiratory endurance, and blood lipid profiles. Refers information to Dietician and Nursing Department for potential dietary modification.
  • Develops initial evaluation information into written goals and exercise prescriptions for each deficit area choosing physical exercises and activities which will sustain interest and ensure continued participation.
  • Reports verbally and/or in writing in conferences, staffing and other meetings to inform necessary personnel, insurance carriers and patients' families of patient testing, treatment, and progress.
  • Provides individual counseling for specific fitness problem areas. Provides ongoing education and behavior modification to establish and reinforce the concept of wellness.
  • Develops and implements individualized home exercise plans for the patients' residential program through fitness/recreation activities out of clinic. Monitors, adapts, and re-tests patients on a periodic basis. Assists patients in transition to community fitness facilities with the goal of increasing the patients' sense of personal responsibility for physical fitness.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education or Exercise Physiology required.
  • Experience in health-related field and exercise leadership and programming is preferred.
  • American College of Sports Medicine certification or other appropriate certification is preferred.
  • Must maintain a good driving record under the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • COVID vaccination with booster (when eligible) required.
