Health Information Manager
Position Overview
Maintains the residents’ records and health information management process including coding, auditing, and storage in accordance with laws, regulations and facility guidelines.
Basic Qualifications
Education & Certification:
College degree in a health-related field of study or equivalent education with experience; must possess a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT); prior training in long-term care health information management.
Experience:
Minimum of one year experience in a health care setting and experience in medical terminology and HIPAA; supervisory experience is preferred.
Essential Job Duties
1. Responsible for maintaining resident charts by completing forms according to facility guidelines and other laws and regulations.
2. Provides expectations and monitors performance of Health Information Management staff.
3. Provides overall supervision of the Health Information Management department and provides guidance to HIM staff.
4. Thoroughly and accurately completes applicable minimum data set (MDS) forms.
5. Oversees the creation of new resident charts upon admission and closing of resident files upon discharge based on facility guidelines.
6. Performs audits for resident charts and partners with Administrator to determine actions needed based on findings.
7. Ensures confidentiality of resident information and secures files to prevent loss or destruction of health information.
Other Job Duties
1. Recruits, selects and orients qualified team members for the Health Information Management department.
2. Tracks physician orders and monitors physician visitation schedules.
3. Reorders forms for medical records and charts.
4. May be responsible for maintaining a master index system.
5. Stays up-to-date with changes and regulatory expectations of health information practices.
Job Type: Full-time
