Purpose

The ideal HG Press Brake Operatorshould have successful press brake operation experience forming sheet metal through lean manufacturing operations. The ability to identify material types, apply basic blue print reading, and demonstrated use of measuring tools, calipers and height gauges are required. Performs all set-up and maintenance operations on the Panel Bender so that products are formed to meet defined specifications. The HG Press Brake Operator works with minimal direction and must strive for continuous improvement and cost savings.

  • Promptly reports injuries for timely diagnoses and medical treatment
  • Make practical safety suggestions so support continuous improvement in safety

Responsibilities

  • Follows the QMS (Quality Management System) guidelines and all SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and WIs (Work Instructions) applicable to the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • Awareness and observance of the policies and practices of the Company.
  • Follows safe work practices and OSHA requirements.
  • Meets Performance Preview and Development Process (PPDP) team targets.
  • Ability to meet productivity requirements.
  • Successfully operate press brake and forming sheet metal to defined bend specifications.
  • Perform simple set ups of press brake.
  • Ability to program adjustments and rework parts if needed.
  • Rolls parts flat.
  • Combine sequences of manufacturing operations.
  • Ability to perform panel bender machine maintenance.
  • Identify need for check fixture.
  • Works with Group Leads to ensure productivity requirements and avoid down time.
  • Delivers quality parts to internal/external customers.
  • Fills out DCR’s (Document Change Requests) as required.
  • Performs TAKT time studies and supports continuous improvement efforts
  • All entries into the business system, such as part numbers, labor, and inspection, must be entered accurately.
  • Assures that all products are identified, located properly and entered correctly into the business system.
  • Operates forklift and has the ability to retain a current forklift license, as required.
  • Organizes area to maximize productivity (5S) and maintains workplace cleanliness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Reading and following written procedures.
  • Reading blueprints and performing all necessary measurements.
  • Quickly and efficiently completing jobs with very few rejects.
  • Perform the most complex operations without assistance.
  • Set-up and run a job without assistance and few or no resets.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training a plus.
  • 1-3 years’ experience forming metal on a press brake preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a sheet metal fabrication environment.
  • Press brake safety, maintenance and proper tool handling maintained at all times.
  • Basic knowledge of tool capability/capacity.
  • Knowledge of air forming bottom bending and coining.
  • Computer skills including ability to effectively use the business system
