Position Purpose:

The position is responsible for the general cleaning and disinfection associated with River Valley locations. This is a critical position requiring the exercise of independent judgment and action within the context of balancing preventative cleaning needs with an ongoing list of immediate housekeeping needs. The housekeeping staff must be sensitive to the fact that he/she may be around patients and must act accordingly. Thorough working knowledge and ability to adhere to River Valley policies and procedures is required.

River Valley is a Federally Qualified Health Center and does require all our staff to receive the COVID vaccination or have an approved medical or religious exclusion.

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Performs regular housekeeping responsibilities as identified by each clinic.
  • Manages the documentation, as necessary, for projected and completed assignments. This would include showing location of work and general category of work completed.
  • Survey and clean high touch areas regularly, sanitizing rooms, and surfaces.
  • Wash, dry, fold, and put away laundry as needed.
  • Utilizes environmentally friendly products that preserve human health and the environment.
  • Adhere to safety regulations regarding safe chemical handling, as well as other cleaning procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisor for needed supplies.
  • Comply with safety regulations while performing duties.
  • Participates in control of cost-effective services that includes proper use of equipment and appropriate use of supplies.
  • Employee demonstrates ownership and follows through with solutions of identifying the need for additional assistance when issues arise.
  • Employee responds to both internal and external communications by returning phone calls and emails within 24 hours.
  • The Housekeeping Specialist maintains the flexibility to complete most tasks during non-traditional hours when patient care is not being provided.
  • Be available on weekends and off clinic hours if needed for emergent situations.
  • Works independently and with a team on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects.
  • Follow all safety procedures, policies and manufactures instruction applicable. Responsible for prevention (or proactive) of unsafe work situations. Participates in safety program. Is familiar with general and departmental safety requirements. Attends training and in-service opportunities.
  • Clean all flooring.
  • Empty waste baskets and trash cans.
  • Clean all bathrooms.
  • Restocking of toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer, and soap.
  • Cleaning of all surfaces in waiting rooms and hallways.
  • Cleaning of the kitchen area to include sink, counters, vacuum, and dusting.
  • Wiping of walls and doors as needed.
  • Inside cleaning of window and blinds as needed.
  • During the cleaning process, housekeeping specialists are likely to detect items that may require repair. As a result, it is their job to report such defects to the applicable person or their supervisor. They must also report if cleaning supplies are running out.

Job Specific Skills / Abilities / Qualifications and Experience:

  • Basic knowledge of Housekeeping duties.
  • At least 1 year experience in general housekeeping or a similar environment preferred.
  • Must possess creativity, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and management, as well as outside agencies, vendors, and patients in a professional, courteous and confidential manner.
  • Must regard work as confidential.
  • Must have a high school degree, GED, or documented positive housekeeping experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision; plan own work schedule effectively and multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced setting.
  • Must have current driver’s license.

Working Environment/Physical Activities:

  • Employee must occasionally lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand, or kneel and occasionally required to climb ladder or balance and stoop.
  • Employee must have the ability to stand for longer periods of time as required by certain tasks.
  • Employee must be able to travel between River Valley locations.
  • Possible potential exposure to communicable disease.
  • Essential to have ability to hear routine conversations.
  • Essential to have ability to comprehend both oral and written communications.
  • OSHA Classification is Category I: All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissue, or a potential for spills or splashes of these fluids.
  • HIPAA Classification: Unrestricted Access: A workforce member with unrestricted access will have full access to patient’s protected health information, including the patient’s entire medical record, for patient care purposes.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $13.70 - $16.50 per hour

  • Monday to Friday
  • Night shift
  • Weekend availability

COVID-19 considerations:
To keep our staff safe, we are screening every visitor that comes in our clinic for COVID symptoms. Masks are required. Thorough cleaning is completed on a daily basis.
