We are looking to fill a position of a (Human Resources Generalist) at our location in Toronto, Ontario, with occasional travel required to our office in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Our business address is 99-100 Brickyard Way, Brampton, L6V 4L9.This is a working from home position, and you must reside in the GTA.


Job Summary

As a Human Resource Generalist, you will be responsible for overall development and implementation of human resource policies and procedures and for acting as a human resources advisor to upper management.

In particular, you are expected to perform the following duties:

Talent Hiring/Full-life cycle recruiting/Pre-Onboarding employee coordination:

  • Develop and implement human resource recruitment, onboarding, and retention policies
  • Advise managers on human resources strategies, requirements, and policy interpretation
  • Advise employees on human resources matters
  • Research and prepare job offer descriptions and develop salary scales
  • Manage and create job offer process
  • Counsel the candidate on corporate benefits, salary, corporate environment, and internal policies and programs
  • Conduct reference and background checks, and providing a written report to the hiring manager
  • Maintain hiring and employment data. Manage programs and maintain human resources information and related records system and Knowledge on HRIS (Preferably tools like Paylocity, ADP, SharePoint or other HRIS)
  • Assist in employment branding initiatives
  • Plan and administer staffing, total compensation, training and career development, employee assistance, employment equity and affirmative action programs
  • Hire and oversee training of staff

Hiring and Onboarding

  • Conduct HR orientation: company, handbook, policy, compliance overview
  • Counsel the candidate on corporate benefits, salary, and corporate environment.
  • Schedule new hires’ training and orientation with HR and other departments
  • Process new hires paperwork and submit necessary paperwork to the payroll/finance and back office
  • Provide the necessary support systems for payroll requirements
  • Communicate with new hires before their start date to provide necessary information
  • Liaise with internal teams to create corporate accounts and other necessary access for new employees
  • Conduct e-verify, and other government related requirements for new hires
  • Create and maintain employee files in SharePoint and Salesforce

Employee Relations

  • Work with management to resolve employee relations issues, conducts investigations, and makes recommendations for resolution
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate human resources and labor relations strategies including policies, programs, and procedures to address an organization’s human resource requirements
  • Advise managers and employees on the interpretation of human resources policies, compensation and benefit programs and collective agreements
  • Negotiate collective agreements on behalf of employers or workers, mediate labor disputes and grievances and provide advice on employee and labor relations
  • Address demands, grievances, or other issues such as assisting employees to communicate with payroll issues
  • Support employee opportunities for professional development
  • Source and purchasing company gifts or rewards

Performance Appraisal

  • Assist with the performance management and review process
  • Ensure that performance appraisal was conducted by managers
  • Ensure that results of performance appraisal are implemented for each employee
  • Keep and update records of performance appraisal
  • Co-ordinate employee performance appraisal programs

Compensation and Rewards

  • Make recommendations with regards to pay, merit increases, salary structure maintenance, etc.

Benefits:

  • Coordinate with the benefit brokers to annually review all employer-sponsored benefit plans for renewal and compliance (Healthcare/Dental/Vision)
  • Conduct open enrollment educational meetings with employees
  • Make sure that employees are enrolled and terminated from each benefit program with each vendor (COBRA enrollment, RRSP Enrolment & Health Benefits Enrolment)
  • Research employee benefit and health and safety practices and recommend changes or modifications to existing policies.

Compliance, Administrative and Reporting

  • Report to management and provide decision support through HR metrics
  • Ensure legal compliance throughout human resource management
  • Sign client contracts and documents related to staffing
  • Submit reports such as employee census, revised salary and other reports needed by vendors
  • Update and revise HR Related documents such Employee Handbook, Onboarding & offboarding templates, Company Policies like Maternity Leave Policy, Parental Leave Policy, etc.
  • Attend necessary organizational and work-related meetings

Offboarding

  • Update and revise Offboarding procedures
  • Conduct Exit Interviews
  • Ensure that government mandated requirements are applied to terminated employees such unpaid PTO based on state law, providing them with experience letter and proper documentation.
  • Coordinate with terminated employees and the back office to address issues such as payroll discrepancies

Other Duties:

  • Involvement with the Payroll and Accounting team
  • Accounts receivable coordination.
  • Supplier management information and coordination.
  • NDA MSA for Vendor Management and the legal coordination.


Terms of Employment:
This is a full-time, permanent position, 40 hours per week


Salary offered:
$38.50/ hour


Benefits: Company medical benefits
: Company offers medical benefits which include dental, vision, medicine, disability, and life insurance of which the Company will contribute 50% of the total premium and you being responsible for the remaining costs. The employee will be eligible to enroll immediately upon commencement of employment and will receive benefit coverage upon the completion and submission of all required benefit enrolment documentation and acceptance by the insurer. The Company also offers a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) with a match of employee’s contributions up to a maximum of 4% of your base salary (or the CRA limit, whichever is less), which the employee may participate in after 6 months of employment. The employee will also be entitled to participate in the Company’s Flexible Time Off Policy, which currently does not have a limit on the vacation entitlement. The employee will be reimbursed for relocation to the GTA/temporary accommodation for up to $5,000 CAD, wellness program, paid learning and training opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of HR experience in the information technology industry (mandatory)
  • Technical recruitment background is mandatory
  • Advanced knowledge of human resources software, electronic scheduler, database software and other professional HR tools
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
  • Experience in advising senior management
  • Proven ability to think strategically
  • Ability to work individually and in team settings
  • Superior problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Attention to detail
  • Preference will be given to candidates with Canadian work authorization


Education:

  • Completion of a postgraduate professional development program in human resources is required
  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a Computer Science or related field is highly desirable, experience as an IT professional may be accepted in lieu of technical education
