The Human Resources Generalist will have a broad knowledge of human resources functional areas, including anything from employee recruitment and onboarding to benefits administration and compliance. They maintain the human resource information system, control and update employee records, complete assigned tax, insurance, and benefits reporting requirements, update job descriptions, assist with salary administration processes, and ensure that agency records and reporting comply with federal and state regulations.

The responsibilities are vast, and they will be relied on for their detail-oriented processes and interpersonal skill to help administer various HR initiatives for internal and external stakeholders.

The Human Resources Generalist reports to the Director, Human Resources and works closely with the entire Employ Prince George’s staff in various capacities. This position does not supervise staff and is Exempt.

Essential Responsibilities:


Recruitment and Talent Management

  • Oversee multiple, full life-cycle equitable hiring processes simultaneously, including drafting position descriptions, reviewing resumes, creating interview content/value identification protocols, making offers, and conducting reference and background checks
  • Create and maintain strong partnerships with hiring managers by serving as a trusted advisor and providing training on recruiting best practices and techniques
  • Help enhance systems to guide and track the effectiveness and efficiency of EPG’s recruitment and selection strategies
  • Deliver an exceptional experience for all applicants by responding to all inquiries within 48 hours, proactively providing status updates, and ensuring communications are warm and accessible
  • Serve as a model ambassador for EPG as a great place to work by representing the organization at networking events and job fairs
  • Participate in the onboarding and orientation of all new hires to company systems, policies, general operating procedures, and culture.
  • Coordinate offboarding activities including, executing exit interviews, account termination, etc.

  • Assist the processes and quality control associated with producing consistently accurate and timely benefits programs, including periodically auditing processes and data flow systems, and advising and/or supporting the execution of process improvements
  • Policy and Compliance
  • Employ a thorough understanding of HR laws and organization policies and procedures and apply them consistently and fairly in the administration of day-to-day operations.
  • Vigorously seeks to correct areas of non-compliance.
  • Provides guidance and counsel clearly and effectively to both leadership and employees conveying policies and procedures.
  • Make appropriate suggestions based on legal knowledge
  • Participate in the development of organizational guidelines and procedures
  • Assist with employee development plans and performance management
  • Assist in the communication, interpretation, and upkeep of employee handbook, employee directory, and organizational chart, and contributes to the development of policies

Employee Communication & Engagement

  • Lead engagement and retention initiatives that reinforce our cultural narrative of growth, innovation, ownership, speed, collaboration, and inclusion
  • Oversee content creation and day-to-day management of our employee communication channels to ensure employee awareness, understanding of programs and initiatives, and participation in events
  • Collaborate with the Culture Committee to conceive and manage the successful creation and execution of company-wide engagement events, under the supervision of the Director
  • Bolster the internal communication infrastructure across the organization to enhance the employee experience by identifying key engagement drivers and developing a supportive communication plan to inform, inspire, and involve employees at all levels and geographically dispersed locations
  • Maintain and deploy tools, engagement surveys, and metrics for assessing employee feedback, identifying concerns, monitoring overall employee satisfaction, and providing actionable insight from the data gathered

Systems Management and Reporting

  • Maintain general HR, recruitment, and performance metrics for tracking, reporting, and auditing purposes
  • Manage the organization’s employee database and prepare reports
  • Assist with budget monitoring, benefits invoicing, and payroll
