Job Title: Facility and Operations Manager
Department: Operations
Reports To: Director of Operations

Position Summary
Incumbent is responsible for facility maintenance, ice resurfacer maintenance, ice maintenance and building cleanliness and upkeep. Facility upkeep to include but not limited to preventative maintenance and cleaning, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and other normal maintenance work. This role also oversees daily operations including possibly opening or closing the facility, building systems, ice resurfacer staff and cleaning staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate the ice resurfacer and edger as needed to maintain high quality ice in an outdoor environment
  • Maintains ice equipment, both independently and in conjunction with mechanics, to ensure seamless operations
  • Routine checks on all building equipment, and repair or schedule repairs and necessary
  • Work in conjunction with the building’s stationary engineer on preventative maintenance and improvements on chiller and other HVAC systems
  • Oversee snow removal from the rink surface, including overnight snow watch
  • Repair or prepare for replacement any equipment that is malfunctioning
  • Ability to independently research and discover solutions for issues that may arise
  • Maintain an ice maintenance schedule in accordance with the master schedule and ensure that all work is documented
  • Prepare estimates for both ongoing and one-time projects, and operate within set budgetary parameters
  • Be able to calmly respond and react to emergencies
  • Serve as the manager on duty for various shifts, which will likely include a mix of early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Schedule and supervise part time staff in the operations department
  • Oversee contractors and other third-party providers to ensure work is performed to the highest standard
  • Provide training, both ongoing and for new employees, on building operations best practices
  • Report and track all conditions at the facility which may pose a life-safety hazard for anyone in the facility, and work to remedy those situations
  • Interact with guests in a professional manner, specifically when serving as a manager on duty
  • This is a full year position for a seasonal venue- work requirements may change during the summer months to support specific summer programming
  • All work will be performed at the facility

Physical Demands:

  • The facility and operations manager will need to be able to muti-task in a fast-moving business, often with a large number of patrons in the building
  • This is a leadership role that requires a strong presence in and around the facility
  • Work hours may be irregular
  • The role requires standing for long periods of time, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting in excess of 50 lbs., and operating on an ice surface
  • This position also requires the focused use of a computer and other office machinery, telephone communication, and audio/visual equipment, as needed
  • The ability to operate heavy machinery, hand tools, and power tools on a regular basis

Educational Background Required

  • Experience with building maintenance and equipment operations
  • Experience with ice resurfacer or other heavy machinery/automotive operations and maintenance
  • HS Diploma or equivalent, and/or trade school training and a minimum 3 years related experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail

License/Certification:

  • Driver's License (Required)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED (must obtain within 30 days after hiring)
  • Certified Ice Technician (preferred)
  • Forklift operator (preferred)
  • This position generally requires that work be performed from the Wollman Rink offices, but attendance at events taking place at the rink or offsite, including on weekends and/or holidays, may be required.

Work Environment:

The venue is a combined indoor/outdoor space and is subject to the extremes of heat and cold normally found in New York City. The position requires working in various weather situations, including rain and snow. Work may occur in loud environments and with loud machinery.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
