JOB SUMMARY:
The In-House Counsel will be responsible for providing legal support to the company, including but not limited to drafting and negotiating various agreements and contracts, handling miscellaneous collections and litigation matters, and working with various departments to provide general legal review and advice.
JOB DUTIES:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Draft and negotiate various agreements, leases and contracts. Assist with and oversee lease abstracts.
2. Offer counsel on a variety of legal and business issues.
3. Advise executives and work alongside employees in connection with leasing, property acquisition and disposition, financing transactions, and property management. Advise executives on contract and transaction terms and status, legal risks, and business terms of various deals.
4. Manage various legal projects and deadlines, ensuring legal and business objectives are met in a timely fashion.
5. Oversee and provide assistance with due diligence matters in connection with property acquisitions.
6. Provide assistance with leases, loan transactions, property acquisition and disposition, and strategic planning.
7. Research legal issues impacting the organization including statutes, judicial decisions, and codes.
8. Keep abreast of legislative changes that may affect the company and its affiliates.
9. Perform pre-litigation work to minimize risks and maximize legal rights.
10. Assist in the management of the organization’s litigation. Work with the appropriate business units to resolve claims, contract disputes and litigation, providing legal advice as necessary.
11. Responsible for handling various landlord/tenant and other collections matters, including legal pleadings, stipulations, motions, and other legal documents.
12. Develop legal forms and procedures to provide efficient, practical processes.
13. Provide training to company and its affiliates on substantive legal topics.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with management and/or training of para-legal / legal assistant / administrative assistant staff members. Oversight of other in-house counsel.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
1. J.D. Degree from an accredited law school.
2. 10+ years of real estate law related experience.
3. Extensive commercial leasing experience and real property acquisition / disposition experience.
4. Member in good standing with the Michigan Bar Association.
5. Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills; ability to correspond in a professional, businesslike manner and speak effectively before groups of customers and colleagues.
6. Excellent time management, organization and prioritization skills.
7. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel and Word)
8. Perform all job duties with a positive attitude.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $140,000.00 - $215,000.00 per year
