Infection Control Nurse

Binghamton and Johnson City, NY

Shift: Days, 7:00 a.m.– 3:30 p.m.

Hours per week: 32
Salary range: $34.08 - $51.12/hour, depending on experience

United Health Services is seeking an Infection Control Nurse to join Wilson Medical Center and Binghamton General Hospital in Binghamton and Johnson City, NY. This is a BENEFITS-ELIGIBLE part-time position.

Infection Control Nurse Overview

The nurse will participate in the UHS Hospitals Infection Prevention and Control program, which includes prevention, surveillance, and control of infections. They will also assist the hospital departments in executing responsibilities in infection prevention and patient safety.

Infection Control Nurse Key Responsibilities and Expectations

• Conducts infection surveillance activities per regulatory standards including identification of nosocomial infections, clusters, and outbreaks, and implementing infection control measures.
• Collaborates with health regulatory agencies regarding reporting all known communicable diseases, provides appropriate follow up information, and maintains accurate, confidential records.
• Assists in educating employees, patients, and families regarding communicable diseases and infection prevention and control issues.
• Collaborates with Admissions/Reservation and nursing department in patient placement regarding isolation precautions.
• Provides information and advice to nursing, medical staff, and other hospital personnel regarding proper implementation of isolation procedures and infection prevention measures.
• Participates on hospital committees as needed relation to infection prevention activities.
• Conducts surveillance of HAI and reports to NHSN as required by CMS and NYSDOH.
• Participates in Lean Six Sigma projects and performance improvement programs.
• Participates in survey preparedness for CMS, NYSDOH, and TJC.

Position Qualifications

Minimum:

Education/Experience

Minimum Required:

• Associate in Applied Science in Nursing with 5 years of clinical experience or Infection Prevention experience.

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing with 3 years of clinical experience or Infection Prevention experience.

License/Certification

Minimum Required:

• New York State Registered Nurse or eligible

Preferred:

• Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC)
