Job Summary:

The Infection Preventionist has administrative responsibility for the Health System Infection Prevention and Control Program. In consultation with the Medical Staff, Administration and Employee Health Services, the Infection Preventionist applies evidence-based best practices to design, implement and manage a creative, cost-effective program for health care customers ranging in age from the neonate to the elderly throughout the health system.

Requirements:

  • Education: BA/BS or BSN, required
  • Infection Prevention and Control Certification, preferred
  • Pennsylvania RN license, required
  • Two years of infection prevention and control experience, required
  • CPR
  • Background Clearances (as required by law)

Job Responsibilities and Major Duties:

  • The Infection Preventionist has 24 hour administrative responsibility for the Health System Infection Prevention and Control Program.
  • Plans, coordinates, implements and evaluates the Sharon Regional Medical Center Infection prevention and Control Program, co-chairs the Infection Prevention and Control Committee, and prepares appropriate reports for communication of infection prevention and control information throughout the Health System.
  • Conducts surveillance for all acute care areas, outpatient facilities, Transitional Care Unit, Rehabilitation Unit and Behavioral Health Services.
  • Serves a collaborative role with Employee Health Services regarding communicable diseases and regulatory issues.
  • Initiates epidemiological investigations of unusual clusters or high rates of infection. Maintains a collaborative relationship with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and reports communicable diseases appropriately.
  • Directs the review and revision of Infection Prevention and Control Policies and procedures for presentation to the Infection Prevention and Control Committee for approval.
  • Maintains competency, accuracy, and accountability for all mandatory requirements related to Infection Prevention and Control including Joint Commission, Department of Health, Centers for Medicare Services; and all public reporting requirements including but not limited to healthcare associated infections to the CDC NHSN.
  • Actively engaged in ongoing performance improvement activities related to infection prevention and control.
  • Identifies and recommends cost containment activities for infection control related processes and procedures to reduce/eliminate infections.
  • Assists with education and training for Sharon Regional Medical Center employees, patients, and families for infection prevention and control related topics as needed.
