Duties: SUNY New Paltz and the Biology Department seek a full-time, tenure-track instructor and pre-health advisor. We invite candidates that hold a terminal degree in a relevant field (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., D.O., D.P.T., O.D., D.V.M.) and have a passion to teach and work with undergraduates to apply. The successful candidate will teach three course equivalents per semester. Teaching duties will be a mix of undergraduate courses at different levels in our curriculum, including the lecture and lab of Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy.

The successful candidate will also act as a primary academic advisor to biology majors and engage in departmental and institutional service through participation in committees. In addition, the successful candidate will be the pre-health advisor for the School of Science & Engineering serving as a resource for student and faculty regarding program requirements, and would also collaborate with the director of the dual degree medical programs at SUNY New Paltz. There will be no departmental expectation of research for this position but clinical ability will be demonstrated by such things as success in developing clinical experiential learning for students, supervising and mentoring students in field and clinical settings.

Other duties would include:
  • Teaching introductory-level lab sections, general education courses designed for non-majors, and other courses as required by the needs of the department and associated programs.
  • As a pre-health advisor, staying abreast of the prerequisite requirements of a diversity of pre-health career paths, acting as a resource for students and faculty of these requirements through:
  • Conducting individual meetings and informational workshops
  • Coordinating and writing composite recommendation letters
  • Participating in recruitment events, and acting as a liaison with regional stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with the director of the dual degree medical programs at SUNY New Paltz, assisting in their management of student interest and participate in candidate interviews.
