Job Summary and Responsibilities/Duties

This position is a Full-Time .95385 FTE, On-Site role.

JOB SUMMARY
Provides software and hardware support and acts as the primary interface with end users at all Child Development and Family Support (CDFS) Program/Head Start sites. Installs and maintains software and peripherals, performs configuration of hardware and troubleshoots problems. May provide on-site training. Collaborates with the MHCC IT department as needed to support CDFS technical needs. Follows MHCC IT Department standards, regulations and guidelines for any software or hardware on MHCC’s network.

Essential Duties


  • Configures, installs, monitors, and maintains end users’ desktop software and hardware and mobile technology, including web-based and browser-based software. Provides consultation to end users for all aspects of end user computing and software.
  • Provides technical support and guidance through Tier 1 and Tier 2 customer support and works with team and vendors to resolve Tier 3 issues. Documents solutions and develops end user guidelines.
  • Utilizes MHCC’s ticket tracking system to manage requests and document work performed in alignment with defined quality standards and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Works with MHCC IT department teams to troubleshoot or implement improvements under overall IT direction and standards.
  • Troubleshoots and configures computer operating systems to maintain compatibility and eliminate conflicts.
  • Coordinates and completes all aspects of annual computer upgrades and site moves as part of yearly CDFS site reconfigurations and the overall MHCC Sunset refresh program.
  • Evaluates, maintains, modifies (e.g., creates macros, templates) and documents desktop application packages; participates in the testing and evaluation of new desktop applications.
  • Establishes and maintains preventative maintenance programs and schedules as required by MHCC standard operating procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains library of manufacturer’s maintenance agreements and software licensing for the college.
  • Provides training to staff and parents on introductory computing skills, including basic navigation of operating systems and accessing email.
  • Evaluates and provides feedback to management on new software, hardware or processes


Additional Duties
  • Reports suspected child abuse in accordance with Oregon Statute and Head Start procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Attends training sessions and participates in training opportunities.
  • Supports and encourages parent involvement.
  • Works as a team with staff in providing services to children and families.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
  • Interacts with children, families and community members in a supportive and professional manner.
  • Works with IT Managers to establish annual budgets.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications


  • Associate’s degree in information technology or related field.
  • Minimum (2) years of relevant systems technician experience in a complex network environment.
  • Intermediate-level (considerable) knowledge of a wide variety of technologies to effectively support end user technical needs. This includes computing devices, operating systems, network technologies, printers and peripherals, and a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, email and database applications (desktop, client-server, browser-based, etc.).
  • Experience working in an end user, customer service role.
  • Current driver’s license, insurance, and access to a reliable automobile during work hours for transportation to off-campus sites.

Additional qualifying education/experience may be substituted for
education / experience on a year for year basis.

Desired Qualifications
  • CompTIA A+ Certification or comparable.
  • Bilingual skills, oral and written fluency, in languages that meets community/department's needs.
  • Experience working with early childhood education programs.
  • Knowledge of Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

  • Must provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 OR have a medical or religious exemption approved by Mt. Hood Community College prior to the first day of work.
  • Must be enrolled in the Oregon Criminal History Registry prior to beginning employment and enrollment must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Post-offer fitness for duty evaluation, must be obtained within 30 days of hire date:
  • TB screening.
  • Health appraisal.
  • Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect training must be completed within 60 days of hire date.
  • Introduction to Child Health and Safety training must be completed within 30 days of hire date.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Well-developed oral communication skills as well as technical skills to present and exchange technical information.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Work performed requires physical ability to crawl under desks and the ability to lift and work on equipment that may be located in tight or poorly lit spaces. Lifting and moving of moderate-weight end user computing devices is sometimes required. Works assigned schedule, and exhibits regular and predictable attendance. Work may require travel to off-campus locations.
