POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB DESCRIPTION: Outpatient Counselor (Chemical Dependency and/or Mental Health)

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: IOP Manager or Clinical Director

POSITION SUPERVISED: None

QUALIFICATIONS/CREDIENTIALS:

  • Minimum of an LCDC II, LSW, or equivalent, in State of Ohio required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer competency required.
  • Three years’ experience, preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in counseling, social work, or related field preferred.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Outpatient counselors provide individual and group counseling services in the outpatient program (IOP and Non-Intensive program). The counselor completes a comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessment when necessary, formulates a treatment plan and maintains appropriate documentation of all services. The counselor will provide IOP and non-IOP individual therapy, group therapy and case management services. Mental health counselors who qualify may provide the mental health services.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of addiction and withdrawal process.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of mental health diagnosis and issues.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Ability to establish therapeutic alliance with clients.
  • Ability to respond to urgent client issues.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff/disciplines as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Ability to conduct educational/therapy groups regarding substance abuse / dependence and mental health.
  • Ability to conduct individual and group counseling.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation of all services.
  • Ability to assess client progress and determine appropriate level of care.
  • Ability to facilitate positive discharge from current level of care and ongoing care at next level of care.
  • Understanding of standards of care established by OhioMHAS and Joint Commission.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of community resources for clients.
  • Ability to represent Stella Maris with external agencies/professionals
  • Maintains CPR certification.
  • Completion of requirements for annual agency training compliance.
  • Upholds client rights and confidentiality regulations.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Performs other duties of the position and within the individual’s capabilities as assigned by his/her supervisor.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $24.00 per hour
