Job Summary

Sheakley is looking for an individual with a diverse set of skills and capabilities to join its internal software development team. The ideal candidate will possess deep skills in numerous skill sets of IT development, namely in the areas of project management, business requirements gathering, team leadership and operational support. You will use these various skills to help design, manage, implement and support business related IT processes. You will be a team leader for a small team of developers, and you will regularly interact with the business. You will push forward technology initiatives and ensure that proper coding standards, documentation and testing are completed and accurate. You will help lead the modernization effort of the existing applications once you have gained sufficient knowledge and understanding of existing processes.

This position is not a pure project manager role, project management is about 40% of this position. As the project manager for this project you will also be required to perform a number of the project related tasks, such as gathering requirements from the business, working with the business to design the new screens and determine future automations.

This position requires an individual who has project management skills, but also can be hands-on at times and perform some non-traditional project management technical tasks as well as support some operational tasks. The successfully candidate will have had a career that encompasses a variety of skill sets that will set them up for a successful career at Sheakley.

This role will be working on the complete update of Sheakley's largest division's main business application, moving it from legacy Client-Server to Web 2.0 API based application. Technologies being utilized include C# , Angular and a Micro-Service based architecture.

Due to the responsibilities of this job and the people you will be interacting with, an individual in the Eastern or Central Timezones is preferred. There are daily and regular meetings that occur at 8AM EST each day.

The ideal hands-on project manager is expected to have a diverse skill set that enables them to manage project planning in an agile environment, to document process flows, understand the existing systems and helping to redesign and build the new Web 2.0 version. The following are skills looked for:


  • Business Analysis (Required)
    • Ability to work with business partners to understand their current business practices and the challenges they face today.
    • Ability to work with business partners to conceptualize a future state for those practices that would involve higher automation, elimination of non-required or value add tasks and provides for more accountability, and future automation.

  • Project Management
    • Knowledge and understanding of Agile
    • Develop long term project planning
    • Manage multiple sub-projects of the main project
    • Ensure team members have a constant stream of work tasks to ensure they are utilized
    • Manage epic/story/tasks and ability to break down requirements into appropriate small units of
    • Manage the individual tasks to ensure they are progressing in an expected
    • Manage all aspects of the Agile sprint
    • Move finalized code products to
    • Meet regularly with project stakeholders to update on progress, discuss current challenges and work to resolve any business issues that may arise.
  • Technical Development
    • Ensure new processes are documented with process flows, and
    • Work with business and developers to mock up and design screens for new functional
    • Develop end-user training plans for implementation of new components of the
    • Manage the testing process and ensure that business and developers are adequately
    • Troubleshoot production applications that have run into
    • Work with developers and business users to resolve
  • Operational Duties
    • Oversight and management of some regularly scheduled jobs and
    • Perform some periodic application data loading
    • Work with auditors to ensure audit requirements are met and any issues quickly
  • Communication
    • Must be able to communicate with both technical individuals as well as non-technical business
    • Must be able to reduce complex topics into simpler, easier to understand wording for business
    • Must be an effective communicator, both verbally and
    • Must provide feedback in reasonable time
    • Must update management and stakeholders bi-weekly and more frequently as situations
  • Versatility
    • Must be able to jump from one task to another in a seamless

    • Understanding of Stored Procedures and ability to write and understand complex SQL queries, including inner/outer joins is a plus.

Job Duties

Your day to day job duties will be quite varied, but will encompass all or parts of the following at any given time:

  • Ensure that current departmental applications are functioning and if there are issues that they are evaluated, prioritized and resolved in an appropriate time frame.
  • Communicate with business any downtime or production related issues
  • Attend IT meetings as well as business related meetings
  • Produce bi-weekly status reports of progress of self, team and team projects / activities as well as upcoming tasks and issues that will be of interest or impact the business.
  • Ensure developers have work to do and that obstacles are identified and
  • Project plan development tasks in Jira, complete releases, ensure development is progressing and meeting with business to push through obstacles.
  • Understand all applications used by the business, but especially the integrations between applications and custom interfaces we have developed, document these and be able to support and troubleshoot
