We are currently seeking a Kitchen Assistant: in a part-time position (20 hours a week). The Kitchen Assistant will work in the South Napa Shelter Kitchen helping to ensure that meal service is organized, consistent, and timely. They report to the Kitchen Coordinator and collaborate on all aspects of meal service, food donations, and kitchen cleaning and operations.

Please note that if you the applicant are looking for a full time position, we can discuss the possibility of working an additional 20 hours a week as a Shelter Monitor.

RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES::

• Lunch and dinner preparation, including assembling salads and heating pre-cooked dishes.
• Dinner preparation and set-up three nights per week.
• Work with the Kitchen Coordinator to create three meals per week from donated or purchased, pre-cooked ingredients.
• Pre-package meals from leftovers, to be stored for later use.
• Help oversee kitchen volunteers.
• Assist the Kitchen Coordinator in maintaining a clean and organized kitchen and dining room.
• Assist the Kitchen Coordinator with food pick up from various local suppliers.
• Maintain records of meals served and foods donated to the kitchen.
• Oversee weekly deep clean of the kitchen and dining room.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be 18 or older.
• Experience working in a kitchen preferred.
• Must have Food Handlers’ license, or be willing to take the training and pass the test.
• Ability to drive personal vehicle to transport food. (Mileage is reimbursed.)
• Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, including at least one booster.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
• Must be able to remain standing for prolonged periods, during meal service, dishwashing and cleaning the facility.
• Must be able to wear a mask at all times while inside the building.

WORK CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT:

• Must be comfortable working in a kitchen environment, handling hot trays as well as heavy pans, and frozen foods.
• Must be able to handle cleaning chemicals.
