We are hiring for a new member of our kitchen crew here at Chewish Deli. Located in Old Town Alexandria, we offer hand rolled bagels, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, a expanding coffee program and a small retail selection. We are looking for a true kitchen hero - someone who can swoop in a help where it's most needed! Most time will be spent in the kitchen during service but this is a swing position to help with prep work, roll bagels or hop up front to help customers if needed. This position will require someone who is quick to learn new skills, able to adapt to a changing work environment, keep calm during busy times and interact well with both fellow team members and our customers. Our ideal candidate will have some experience in food service, but we are happy to train the right person. This position can be either part or full time, weekends and mornings are a must! If you’re a morning person this is a great place since we close by 2:00 you’ll never work too late!
Role and Responsibilities:
Primarily working in the kitchen preparing sandwiches, and prepping food items
Cooking grill items such as eggs, bacon, sausage, steak + cheese subs, grilling vegetables, etc…
Coverage of ringing customers up, as needed
Must adhere to sanitation and food safety regulations
Usual shift is 6:30am – 2:30pm
Keeping station clean and organized throughout service
Skills and Experience:
1+ year restaurant experience preferred but not required
A passion for great food and should probably love bagels!
Okay, don’t necessarily need to love bagels, but at least like them!
Customer service experience preferred
Ability to adapt to change
Quick thinking
Great memory recall – need to remember what goes on sandwiches
Critical thinking is a must
**Pay will be based on experience and skills, most of our staff see $8+ per hour additional pay with their share of tips
