Job Requirements/ Qualifications

  • Preferred AA or BS in science
  • Fundamentals of chemistry, physic and microbiology and strong math skills
  • A comprehensive understanding of Microsoft office programs; must be proficient in Excel and understand IR calibration
  • Be able to work independently and be able to stand for several hours
  • To take initiative in resolving problems
  • Willing to work overtime during the harvest season (August through November)

Job Duties and responsibilities

  • To perform assigned wine analysis using a variety of different methods: densimetric, titration, distillation, IR and enzymatic
  • To calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instruments such as Oenofoss (FTIR), pHmeter, turbidimeter, conductivity meter, distillation casks, spectrophotometer, refractometer, precision scale, etc.
  • To prepare and test title of chemical reagents/solutions, including testing of DI water
  • To accurately transcribe lab results to appropriate forms (excel) such as daily reports forms, Bulk inventory, wine historical sheets, bottling QC report, Bulk wine shipment QC report
  • To organize the daily workload
  • To coordinate pre-harvest grape sampling and related analysis (brix, pH, IR panel)
  • To prepare wine blends trials and treatments trials (fining/stability tests)
  • To prepare pilot samples for bulk wine and/or bottled wine projects/sale, including label printing for identification
  • Maintain a clean, tidy laboratory setting also compliant with safety standards
  • To keep Laboratory safety compliance up to date
  • To keep an accurate inventory of reagents to guarantee operativity with no downtime
  • To monitor supply water acidification treatment on a weekly basis and collect analysis once a year
  • To monitor refrigeration plant cooling tower water quality (pH, Conductivity, etc.) and test glycol % on refrigerant solution
  • To accurately transcribe lab results to appropriate forms (excel) such as daily reports forms, Bulk inventory, wine historical sheets, bottling QC report, Bulk wine shipment QC report
  • To gain a basic understanding of the properties of wines to understand the meaning of data collected

Work attendance

  • 8.00am – 5.00pm, Monday thru Friday. Overtime by approval only.
  • 40 hours per week minimum. During harvest period, to work on Saturdays and/or Sundays as required by the production schedule

Remuneration

DOE up to $22.00 per hour

base hourly rate of $17.50 per hour for candidates with no experience in laboratory setting
