Purpose of Position:

Under direct supervision follows the Laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing and prepares specimens for analysis. Knowledge of accessioning functionality in Cerner and lab areas. Performs record keeping, data entry ad collection activities to patient specimens for diagnostic and treatment purposes using Hospital Computer System.

Responsibilities:

• Verifies identification of patient specimens and requests for tests. Recognizes improperly labeled specimens.
• Sorts specimens with appreciate labeling and identification for distribution to designated laboratories for testing
• Performs accessioning, pertinent data entry and retrieval functions using automated and/or manual systems
• Centrifuges and decants specimens as needed. Identifies specimens that require centrifuging and load blood samples in centrifuge, sort and load samples on the automation system as required.

1. Graduation from a Senior High School or High School Equivalency Diploma and one year of experience in a laboratory environment performing related work as described in position; or,
2. Satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
