The lab assistant is responsible for receiving, processing, and curating human biological samples in the TCRC Laboratory.
Duties include processing and curating human biological samples, itemized as:
- creating aliquots of biological samples for long-term storage and testing, including appropriate labeling of specimens
- performing inventory of frozen samples
- maintaining organized -80oC freezers, including physical organization and electronic databases
- receiving biological specimens from participating sites and collaborators
- organizing and shipping samples for testing
- maintaining inventory of supplies required for day-to-day tasks
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree preferred.
- previous laboratory, healthcare and/or customer service experience required.
- experience with computers, including Microsoft Windows software
- committed and hard working
- strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with individuals in the lab and other staff, colleagues, etc.
- understands and practices standard safety and infection control procedures, including standard precautions
- careful attention to detail and written protocols
- good record keeping skills
- maintain high productivity in busy situations
- independently improves the quality and efficiency of own work
- demonstrates good judgment, some troubleshooting skills
- possess manual dexterity and visual accuracy
- appropriate level of professionalism
- familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Access
