As the Land Management Support professional you will implement resource management operations, monitor ecological conditions, and participate in contract development and oversight as well as assist with coordination and training of staff who manage County-owned natural lands. Job Description:
  • Assist County Fire Mitigation and ESIII with implementing prescribed fire operations on natural area lands.
  • Assist ESIII with documenting, monitoring and treating invasive plant occurrences. Maintain Florida pesticide applicators license.
  • Operate and assist in maintaining vehicles and equipment utilized in prescribed fire operations and integrated pest management.
  • Support and implement land management activities necessary to properly manage natural area lands.
  • Prepare bid specifications, and contractor oversight for projects to be performed by outside contractors.
  • Assist in developing management and annual work plans; assist with the coordination of projects and programs.
  • Assist ES III’s in collection, analysis and evaluation of land management projects/data including GPS/GIS information, effectiveness of land management and monitoring strategies for their restoration and maintenance. Provides interpretation, mapping and data support.
  • All other types of work necessary to support land management goals.
  • Assist ES III’s and Supervisors in report and document preparation (Interoffice reports, GIS, and grant agencies).
  • Participate in public outreach and develop materials for public education on ecological burning and integrated pest management practices.
  • Assist with grant applications for supplemental funding of land management projects. Manage required follow-up.
Work Hours: Monday- Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Flexible hours and weekend work will be necessary for special events, prescribed fire operations and fire readiness as needed
About You
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the biological or physical sciences or related field and two (2) years professional experience
  • Master’s Degree may substitute for one year of professional experience
  • Progressively responsible professional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college degree
  • Valid Florida driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to pass moderate or arduous pack test within one year of employment and to pass either moderate or arduous test on an annually
  • Completion of Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior (S-290), Wildland Fire Chainsaws (S-212) and Completion of ICS 100-300 and NIMS 700 & 800
  • Possession of the Florida Forest Service Prescribed Burn Manager Certification
  • Completion of FDACS Pesticide applicator license within 6 months of employment
  • Certified NATA Natural Areas Manager
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
