Responsive to the safety and security needs of a diverse population of faculty, staff and students at a multi-campus college. To protect life and property and enforce laws of the Commonwealth, as well as the rules and regulations of the college within the appropriate jurisdictional confines. To serve the community by providing professional and efficient police and safety services.

The primary purpose of the position is to provide for the safety and security of persons and property within the jurisdictional parameters of the college. Concurrently, the position has a vital purpose of advancing the college’s mission and image as a dynamic and positive academic environment.

Position may be required to work at any/all campus sites and/or campuses.

Duties:

Ensures that all campus physical facilities and equipment are safe and secure at all times, open/close the campus.

Patrol and inspect the buildings and all areas of the campus facilities and grounds, including all campus parking lots utilizing effective community oriented policing and crime prevention practices.

Respond to calls for service in a timely manner.

Investigate complaints and prepare investigative reports. Coordinate with the local Commonwealth Attorney’s Office to ensure proper court preparation. Testify in court or judicial hearings during the adjudication process.

Enforce state laws, as well as policies and procedures of the college. Contact local law enforcement agencies, as necessary to obtain their assistance in enforcement.

Assist in emergency evacuations of buildings during test drills and actual emergencies.

Collect, package and secure investigatory evidence in accordance with process and procedures published by the Virginia Department of Forensic Science (DFS).

Collect and secure abandoned items in accordance with the department’s Lost & Found policies.

Assist students, faculty, staff and visitors by providing information regarding parking regulations, building/classroom/office locations, campus safety security procedures, etc.

Respond to requests from staff, faculty and students for a variety of services, including unlocking and locking doors, as appropriate; escorting individuals to parking lots/campuses; handling lost and found articles; mail delivery; issuing keys, parking permits and ID’s, etc.

Assist with bank deposits upon requests.

Assist fellow officers, other members of college staff, as well as other departments in a professional, courteous manner.

Communicate with and assist neighboring law enforcement agencies and other agencies.

Completes necessary documentation in a clear, concise, timely manner and forwards them to appropriate personnel.

Prepare and produce appropriate activity and other reports for the supervisor to be utilized for the effective operation of the department.

Issue summonses or citations for violations of campus parking and traffic regulations.

Monitor the college electronic security monitoring systems (CCTV and Alarms Systems) as needed.

Check e-mails daily and respond when needed.

Performs all other duties as assigned.

Communicate effectively with the supervisor.

Work with limited supervision as needed.

Give emergency communication messages through “phone top”, P/A System, megaphone and or in-person as necessary.

Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for the position will commensurate with education and experience; however, the starting minimum for this position is $27,004.00. The position is classified staff and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies. Fiscal year 2021 is one of the strongest years for Virginia Community Colleges in recent state budget history. The G3 (Get Skilled, Get a Job, Give Back) program, which goes into effect on July 1 2021, allows students who quality for full Pell Grants to get $1,000 grants per semester and $500 during the summer to receive a certificate for studying health care, information technology, manufacturing and skilled trades, early childhood education and public safety. Participants will be required to give back two hours of community service, public service, or work experience for each credit hour in which they are enrolled. The program provides funding for tuition, fees and books and other expenses for eligible low- and middle-income students who are pursuing degrees in high-demand fields, including health care, information technology and computer science, manufacturing and skilled trades, public safety and early childhood education. Lawmakers also allocated an additional $5 million in the upcoming budget year to hire 60 badly-needed new community college advisors to help enroll new students and help them successfully navigate the world of higher education. The legislature also approved money to give state classified workers and college faculty (full time and adjunct) five percent pay raises, effective July 1 2021. VCCS leadership said it will work to ensure that P-14 part-time employees also receive the pay raises.

LFCC continues to prepare for the future; our facilities and campus improvement projects include newly completed Luray Page County Center (Jenkins Hall) in Luray, VA as well as the anticipated Hazel Hall Building at our Fauquier Campus in Warrenton, VA.

Lord Fairfax Community College, located in the Northern Shenandoah Valley is accepting applications for adjunct, part-time faculty (day, evening and weekend) positions for Adjunct Faculty. Positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Responsibilities include teaching college level courses, which may include distance learning on and off campus courses during the day, evening and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be certified as a law enforcement officer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Must maintain law enforcement officer certification to include completing the
minimum in-service education requirements established by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS.)

Must be able to function mentally and physically under stress and in emergency situations.

Must be able to effectively communicate with the general public verbally and in writing.

Must possess considerable knowledge of law enforcement, as well as security and safety concepts, principles, procedures and techniques.

Must possess considerable knowledge of
customer service practices and principles.

Must demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately handle agency issued
weapons and qualify annually in the use of agency issued firearms in accordance with the minimum standards established
by DCJS.

Must demonstrate the ability to operate a department motor vehicle safely.

Must demonstrate the ability to give
clear oral and written instructions in order to elicit compliance with law, policies and regulations in both routine and emergency situations.

Must be able to gather information and write factual reports.

Must be able to testify truthfully and
factually in legal hearings and court.

Must never have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude.

Must be willing to travel between multiple LFCC locations and work various shifts.

Work performance must reflect the core values of LFCC (Learning, High Performance, Integrity, Positive Spirit, Diversity.)

Must demonstrate safe practices
in work performance and obey health and safety rules and regulations.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification required for entry into position:

High school graduate or equivalent, be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Virginia driver’s license with a with a point balance of between 0 and +5. Completion of CPR/AED/1st Aid Certification within
1 year of hire is required. Successful completion of background check and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications
DCJS Instructor Certifications preferred.

Associate Degree preferred.
