Northern Lights is excited to announce that we are hiring for a Lead Diesel Engine Technician. This skilled and experienced individual will play a vital role to the companies success.

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for the diagnosis, removal, or replacement of major mechanical and electrical components with little or no supervision.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Provide technical advice for diesel powered equipment.
  • Trains assigned employees in service methods, procedures, and techniques; leads and inspects the work of subordinates and participates in all associated work; verifies work performed for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications; ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures; assists in the evaluation of employees.
  • Leads, trains, and reviews the work of technicians responsible for performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled functions.
  • Perform general and detailed repair of all engines and electrical components.
  • Overhaul both gas and diesel engines.
  • Read job order, observe and listen to equipment in operation to determine malfunction and plan work procedures.
  • Tag all warranty parts and returns to service writer.
  • Inspect and or repair support systems, such as electrical, fuel, cooling, exhaust, etc.
  • Ensure all safety devices on diesel engines are in good working order.
  • Assist less experienced technicians with repairs, maintenance assignments and adjustments.
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties related tools, materials, shop and work areas.
  • Maintain accurate records (time, repair orders and parts usage) on computer.
  • Attend all required factory training classes and keep abreast of factory technical bulletins.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers to increase overall customer satisfaction.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues to provide customers with complete repair quotes.
  • Inspect, lubricate, and service engine driven equipment.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Minimum 5-7 years performing repair and maintenance on heavy trucks and diesel engine vehicles, equipment and related components.
  • Must possess a valid Driver License and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand service instructions.
  • Good mechanical aptitude of equipment maintenance and repairing order.
  • Assist less experienced technicians with repairs, maintenance assignments and adjustments.
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties related tools, materials, shop and work areas.
  • Maintain accurate records (time, repair orders and parts usage) on computer.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Must possess a valid Driver License and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand service instructions.
  • Good mechanical aptitude of equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Minimum 5-7 years performing repair and maintenance on heavy trucks and diesel engine vehicles, equipment and related components.
  • Experience using repair manuals, wiring (electrical) diagrams and schematics necessary to troubleshoot or repair engine or component failure.
  • Ability to safely drive service vehicles and vehicles in and out of service area, as well as test drive.
  • Ability to schedule, book and plan out of town service work that is needed for remote customers. This includes but not limited to flights, marine taxi, hotel, cabs, food, etc.
  • Electrical skills required, DC and AC.
  • Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department or line of business.
  • Be able to do light welding or fabricate metal pieces as the job requires. I.E. Weld exhaust pipe, Torch seized component, etc.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Certified technical training in Diesel Technology.
  • Minimum 5 years performing repair and maintenance on diesel engine driven equipment.
  • Strong technical/mechanical skills and experience required.
  • Computer skills including email, maintenance programs, and diagnostic systems.
  • Experience in total engine rebuild required.

Other Criteria:
